$200 production knife

If you want something really special, start looking around for a Kershaw Ti/ZDP-189 Mini Cyclone...they are damn near impossible to find, but it you keep on the lookout, you will find one. It will be at least $200 these days.

If you like CS get a CS Trailmaster it is the ultimate CS knife IMHO.

+1

The OP kind of left the door wide open by only specifying a price but the CS Trailmaster is an impressive knife for the money. It's probably the toughest wilderness type knife I've ever owned.

Spydie Stretch:

I have one of these on the way to join my Superhawk that I recommended earlier. Considering how much I love ZDP-189, I know I will love it, but since I still like my Superhawk better than my Caly 3 ZDP-189/Carbon Fiber I doubt it will surpass the Superhawk for me, but you never know. The Stretch has the same grippy CF as the Superhawk, superior blade steel, and a great (but not as good as the comp lock to me) backlock, along with a supremely useful blade shape. I'm all crazy over hawkbills, but for most the steel and blade shape would give the Stretch more appeal than the Superhawk.

Well, you've made a great start.

Do you want to spend the $200 on just ONE knife or do you want to mix it up a bit? If I had two hundred bucks to spend on a knife, or knives, I'd have to go to the Cold Steel website and get the monthly special of TWO Konjo tanto knives for $200. I got a couple and they're breathtakingly beautiful.

Or, if that doesn't suit you, you can get on over to eBay and buy one of Cold Steel's new Rajah I or IIs. The Rajah I is about $200, while the II is about half that, maybe less. The Rajah I is gorgeous, though, and much fancier than the II. And it's the strongest folder available.

Finally, no collection is complete without a more expensive Spyderco. I like the longer blades, but it depends on what YOU like. My CS Voyagers all sport 4-6 inch blades. The Vaquero Grande is being discontinued and may be a good investment if you can find one. The 6-inch Ti-Lite also is a great knife to have. I thought I was going to hate it, but I was surprised.

Let us know what you end up with, though.

If you can find one, a Blade Tech Rijbak would be my choice in that price range. Let us know whatever you choose. Have fun!

Welcome,
Do you have any preferences as to a folder or a fixed blade? Any specific tasks you are looking to perform with this knife? :)

Excellent question CarpScot. Perhaps the OP will stop back by and tell us what he is looking for, other than price.

I'm with Mr.Pink, those ScrapYard's are amazing for the money.

As far as folders, I would go with Spyderco, Emerson, or Kershaw/ZT..

I'm with KDR II. The 42. for several reasons. Bali's are cool to learn a new skill. The 42 is a classic usable shape. They hold their value so you can sell it down the road. And they are one of the strongest folders on the market.

+1 on the Kershaw Tyrade with Titanium/Carbon fiber handle, and the combo steel blade.

Maybe a custom Buck 110 with extra special options.

An awesome handmade knife by Bob Dozier.

Half of a Chris Reeve Sebenza with unique graphics.

These are the top of my list. Luckily I already have the Tyrade.
