Ok guys help me out. If someone gave you $200 and you had to spend it on knives, what would you buy. Only one knife or would you go for a combo of a couple good knifes. Basically I have $200 to spend on some knives. I want a good tactical folder and it needs to be smaller than a Spyderco Military (a little big for edc). What is the best bang for the buck. I have no knife store within 4 hours of me, so any info would help. I prefer g-10 to FRN, but once again am open to any sales pitch. I really want quality over quantity. Not particular to any one brand I am open to anything. Just thought I would pick your brains for some wisdom here. Thanks for the help.

If you were looking for custom fixed blades, it would be real easy: Two fixed blades from Eddie White at shadowknives.com.

I just had that delima... I went with the Spyderco CF ZPD Caly III and a Boker Trance.
I like getting one quality, pricey knife and them one 'play knife'.
Maybe a nice Spyderco and a CRKT M21.
It's a such a fun problem.

If I was given $200, and I was buying a production knife, I would save it until I could buy a Sebenza.
Or I would save it and save more to buy a custom knife. (The second choice is a ME thing.)

If the Military is too big, how about a Para-Military and a Griptillian? Maybe a BM 520 and the Grip. I'm all for quality, but for $200 I think you can get one high end production knife, and a less expensive heavy user. Any preferences other than G-10 and size limit?

It's me again and I have refined my answer:
1. Spyderco Caly III (G-10 and VG-10 Steel) $100
2. Spyderco Delica 4 with Emerson style wave (I have one, its a great knife and the wave makes opening it a joy) $55
3. Boker Subcom, called the "biscuit" this little knife rocks. Go to the Boker forum and check out how many posts are on this knife. $30

I already have a Caly 3 and like it alot, my only beef on the Para-Military is I was told it really bites your hand when you reach into your pocket. Once again I have no stores close so I am unable to handle anything to see for myself.

Keep the suggestions coming, I really do appreciate it

If it were me---and they are both at the same place:

http://www.gpknives.com/item/bark-river-white-series-huntsman-curly-maple.html

And even leaves a little to cover shipping and still be under $200

Or you could substitute the Bark River for custom Buck 110

Or get the Benchmade and a nice Surefire flashlight.

Lots of options for $200

I have to second Omaha's post and submit a Spyderco Para-Military for consideration. I haven't found any problems with the Para-Military and pocket carry.

Since you mentioned "Tactical" and "bang for the buck"...

How about a Benchmade 710 and a Mini-Grip.

One for big jobs, the other for more discreet EDC.

Go to the Benchmade website, and pick out one (If you can decide, there are so many great ones) and you'll have a great knife.

If you dont need a lock then the William Henry Friction lock (your thumb holds a bar in place to keep it open) with ZDP blade and CF handle is $200 for the 3" blade and $175 for the 2.4 inch blade. You wont find a lighter sharper better Fit and Finish knife for under $200 dollars but again they dont have a lock.... Oh when i say like the large one is .9oz and the small is .675oz so that is crazy light.

all of the following knives provide lots of bang for your buck and cost in the 100-140 range:

Kershaw zdp mini-cyclone (140)
Benchmade 710 (110)
Spyderco manix (120)
Bradley Alias I (200)
Buck Mayo Waimea or TNT (140 & 160)

With most of these you can also buy another knife such as a spyderco delica or benchmae grip or even a nice neck knife like a buck mayo kaala ($60)

i would also like to add the spyderco military benchmade rukus and skirmish and in the 125-175 range but those are probably too big

I would, and probably will, buy one of these:

Now all I need is for someone to give me the $200 ... any volunteers? Pretty please? ;) :D

I would get a Fallkniven A1 and the rest of the money on 2 new olfa knifes for my shop (finger nails dont cut it.)

I'd go with a Benchmade Mini-Skirmish of some kind, and a Spyderco Spin (that might be breaking the $200 by a few dollars).
