2003 Ugly Knife Contest

Well, it's getting to be the end of the year, let's see some contestants!

What are the rules on this informal, and inappropriate contest? If there aren't any, then let's make some up!

PS, Jerry Fisk posted his first knives this year. BOY!! They were UGLY. But he didn't win.

I might win next year also. I'm working on another of those 1/2" thick hatchet knives. Been forging 2 hours today on it and it is UGLY...and HEAVY!

I'd like to see a rookie of the year award. Do we get enough newbies for that each year?? I think that would kick in some extra incentive for the new fellows. There is plenty of good tutoring here to get anyone with a strong desire off to a decent start.

Rlinger -- that's not a bad idea, I'd participate. I'd say I'm about as rookie as they get!

I'm not sure what would qualify as a "rookie."

I did a little checking back on my old posts, and realized that my first question in Shoptalk was just December of last year. I started my first knife just in the beginning of this year (besides a few "knives" I made when I was about 12). I didn't realize I was such a newbie. It's been a fun ride though!

Michael, I would say after the first year at this you would no longer qualify. It would count me out, as an example.

You, having less than a year (although I find that very hard to believe), would qualify.

Rlinger -- it's true. For some reason, it sure seems like a lot longer than that. I guess I kinda hit it full-force.

Anyway -- is someone going to post some uglies? Let's see 'em!

Do they have to be finished knives? Dang, that leaves me out.

If you wrap the handle with electrical tape it might count -- and probably win!!
