2006 BCCI Alpha Dorado

Jim gets an Atta Boy and first on the list should I,, say,,,become totally disenchanted with it... :p

:D

It had to be the date stamp! There wasn't anything else to bring up. Plus it is kinda weird...

Have a great day guys.

Jim Columbo.

I need to check mine when I get home but i am pretty sure, or am i just hoping?, that the logo lines up with the blade stamp. It looks like it does in your picture.
2007 date code?! Where is the smilie that shows a guy staring at the floor hanging his head in shame.
You see, I totally get that. It may seem small to some but to those of us with the disease that is collecting, its kind of a big deal.
I know why it happened and for what its worth, here you go:
As you know, the project was fraught with delays. Never mind the fact that the company we used to do the gold engraving ruined all of the blades and we had to start over, there were other delays as well. So we get those ruined engraved blades to us in early 2007. The decision was made to do the whole run over, starting over with new blades. Its 2007 so all the blade stamps have been redone to show the new date code...and thats how come they are stamped with the 2007 date code mark.
They were actually made in 2007 and if you consider the fact that the date code system was put in place as an aid to manufacturing and continuous improvement activities, its ok to have that mark on the knives.
Hows that for a spin! :D

Thanks for the comments Joe!

I was shuffeling things around in the toy box and ran across the BCCI 2005 fixed alpha, and since the 2006 folder was still laying here on the desk, thought I would throw up some comparison shots for those that might be interested.

Putting the two of them together, I noticed the differences in the Buck, Custom, and USA stampings.

For a consecutive year series I would liked to see the stampings match. I guess it is only noticeable when they are laid out together.. Just me and my ocd... ( sounds like the beginning of a farm and ranch song..lol)

And before anyone asks...no, the model and year code is not stamped on the 196 fixed blade. And I do like the year and model stampings on the 270.

Iapologize for the quality on this last one. The reflections got me and I don't bother retaking it.

Thanks for the comparison pic's PackRat.I do love the 270 Dorado.
Nice scales too.

humm no one else cought it yet?
the logo on the older one lines up with the edge not the custom stamp.
now another pet peave...
>>>>>>>
that the date mark and the year issue dont match is why

I DONT LIKE YEAR MARKS ON MY CUSTOMS!

ugh dont mean to shout ...
well .... yes i did ... i dont like year marks on any limited custom esp if it is stamped limited or custom...
jest the custom...
if it is totaly apsoluity nessart then on the off side PLEASE!!!

I DONT LIKE YEAR MARKS ON MY CUSTOMS!

Awwww,,,go ahead and shout it out Dave! :D :D

do ya think this one marked custom with out the anvil is a bit unsual? I haven't been keeping up on the customs, but thought the anvils were the thing,, since '02 anyway...

My take on just the custom markings,,,, an '07 could be identical to one much older,,,how ya gonna know without doc..

Hi All,

Interesting issues that Ratty & DDave have opened for discustion. Many folks have complained that it was so hard to ID the date their knives were made....thus Buck started a date stamp on the regular production knives.

But, many of the custom/limited editions still have had no date stamp....resulting in it being hard to ID what specific date your custom/LE was made. I for one like to see the date stamp and not just the custom stamp. About half of the custom/Special Projects/LE knives I have did not come with a box or paperwork and that some times make ID almost impossible for me....a lot of the C/SP/LE's get re-ordered buy other customers....so I may have two knives that look the same to the untrained eye....however, have some subtle differences or variations that I want to note....a date stamp may not completely fix this...but would help me.

Now for this particular 270 issue the date stamp maybe a very good thing!!!!! Do we know if any of the original issue 06 blades that were dorked up at etching were acceptable? If even one was ok and the knife completed it would be a rare variation of this SP issue....without a date stamp you would never be able to ID that knife!!!!

Reading Joe's post, I imagine all the originals were trashed... Would be cool tho if they were somehow recycled into something useable. I hate to see anything go to waste. Can they be melted down and recast? Just curious.

looking again at both knives laying here, I will agree with decaf on the "offside" markings. These blades would really look "clean" with nothing but the logo on one side. And might have made it easier to position the BCCI logo.

AHHHHH YESSSSS !!!
some one with a thought that is both
less filling and has clean good tast also!!!

with buck using up every thing made (wast not want not )
many diffrent things can happen from all sorts of old blades!

FYI : less them HALF of my knives have 'correct' boxes and paper.
i only know of one that is the man on knowing what come with what and ...
by the way ... any one heard from buck 110 of late?
any way , saves me money as it is the knife not the window sticker...

wow- i have commented many times on that the same paterns are
issued many diffrent ways and some few have been reissued as org.
again if you read RM's list you can sort most of it out...

again what makes collecting buck so so spechal is that :

:D NO ONE KNOWS WHAT ALL BUCK HAS MADE:D
:D ~ NOT EVEN BUCK!
:D

and i dont say that in a bad way !!
as it is so nice to be able to find things that are
NOT right off the assumbility line !!
 ;) ;)

Sumtin is really strange....I got mine way back on June 27 when I started this post. Interesting that ya'lls are almost two months later... I been wondering why no one else has talked much about these.

Glad yall are getting them. and from 665s pic, looks like his logo balances up on the blade a little nicer than mine.

Sharp little suckers too.....:eek::D:thumbup:
