2007 110 black leather sheath leather material?

Joe, I sent my sheath to Pete (along with a knife) if you'd like to take a look at it. It's just like everyone is describing...very hard, completely smooth and very chemical smelling.

I'd be willing to send the sheath from my 112 as well, if a representative example would be desired. Topping it off, the thing scuffs easier than any leather sheath I've ever owned- it has two big marks from a fall I took that didn't even leave a brush mark on my leather boots.

My late production 2006 110 (I think the clampack said Nov 06?) has this new type of 'leather' sheath. Has anyone carried one of these new leather sheaths long enough to know if they soften with use like the old ones?

Messer, I tried two applications of lanolin and let them soak in. I might as well have spit at, it as it didn't soften a hair. :(

Hmmm... maybe you should try to emotionally attack it. Try yelling at it and putting it down... Call it a wannabee... that might soften it up a bit. THEN spit on it.

I just thought that I would bump this thread to see if Joe has any updated information.

Did I hear right? They send these cheap faux-leather sheaths with the CUSTOM knives???

That can't be right.

I HAD been thinking about getting a custom 110 done.

Well, you can choose from 3 different sheaths of which only the black leather sheath seems a bit off. I have tried to soften the sheath up, but still no go. I just order the cordura sheath, which is actually rather nicely made.

I wouldn't let the sheath prevent you from buying a custom 110, Rocinante, as they are still a great knife with premium steel, for a very reasonable price.

I live very close to the Buck factory in Post Falls.

If anyone would be interested, I would be happy to stop in and ask them on Monday what the deal is with the leather sheaths.

On the "First Buck Custom Shop 110" thread, Chickenfried said that the Brown sheath was terrible.

I know the knife is great, but one shouldn't have to buy a separate sheath for a custom knife in order to have a good sheath. That just seems wrong and makes you wonder about the whole commitment to quality issue.

@ J.Doe -Thanks, that may be worth a shot if you figure you can find out anything.

@ Rocinante - I believe that the only problem with the brown sheaths, is the glue used to hold the protective pad under the snap. It seems as if the glue allows the pad to 'migrate', which leaves a gooey trail. :(

ok, well.....the glue problem may already be fixed by now. That should be a simple fix.

Don't like cheap leather and I don't like cordura, functional though it may be.
