2007 Tyrade Passaround Reviews

OK guys, here is my review, with pictures.

First off, it is a stunning knife. The composite blade and handle color go together VERY nicely. The clip looks good on this knife, much in the way the clip on the offset looks good on the offset. light in the hand with excellent balance. fairly large knife, but not overly huge.

F&F: typical Kershaw quality. I am sure that it is even better when it is brand spankin new, but i digress. it was great either way. lock up is very sturdy with the frame lock. speedsafe has a nice "thwack" to it.

Sharpness: well obviously it wasnt at factory edge by this point, but it was still very sharp. cut through cardboard easily along with everything else i through at it. with the factory edge, i am sure it would be able to handle to tough jobs.

Pros: light, looks great, top-notch F&F and materials, rides very well in the pocket.

Cons: price, the clip. that clip is scarry to me. it just screams "hey! over here! I have a knife!" esspecially when you are wearing black. if that was different, then it would be a near perfect knife.

other final thoughts: if i owned the tyrade (and will eventually) it would still be #3 on my list. why? it could be more comfortable in the hand. there is a sweet spot with this knife in the 3 grips where it is perfect, but unless you are there, it is comfortable, but not "arm extention" comfortable. if the handle was a bit more rounded towards the bottom (like the Offset or ZT0200) then it would be awsome!

In short, if you are interested in this knife, go ahead and get it. it is worth its price tag!

and for your viewing pleasure (sry about the blurryness, my camera hates me sometimes):

Hey OL, good write up and pics. I especially like the pics where size os being compared. Maybe a smidge blurry, but great nontheless!!:thumbup::D

What i dont like is that the clip isnt a tip up or tip down for the price, therefore knife just sits in a home shelf since i cant wear it tip down which is what make me feel more safe. Since the knife also has no lock and could easily open in your pocket and cut your private parts or thighs if its or your right side pocket with the way the clip is.

I understand your concern...but I'm a little confused...if this is such a concern for you, didn't you check this knife out before purchasing? This is something that could have been easily determined even if you purchased online. Perhaps the knife was a gift...

With that said, the SpeedSafe assembly of the Tyrade consists of dual torsion bars. When the knife is closed, the torsion bars keep it closed until the user moves the blade far enough in the opening direction to cause them to straighten out and open the blade.

I've never heard of a SpeedSafe knife with even one torsion bar coming open in a pocket...only when dropped occasionally.

Of course, there's one even more important point...this knife is tip-down by default.

Ray :)

Edit: Correction...I've been informed that the Tyrade's SpeedSafe mechanism is single-torsion-bar equipped...it's the Offset that's double-pumped...:o

Really? I thought only the Offset had the "double pumper" configuration. Maybe I misunderstood....

It looks like you're right, Rick...I never can keep anything straight...:D

Thanks for the correction...
