2008 Blade Show Awards

None of the 20 were left handed -- all were identical marked with the name umnumzaan and 1/20 which are the two things that will be removed when it goes to production. I haven't heard any word on if they will be making lefty's or not. To make it left-handed it will be a little more difficult than the Sebenza since the lockbar has this little flange that sticks out from the knife so it's easier to unlock/close the knife than a sebbie (say if you were wearing gloves).

Troy, it was great seeing you again, and a special treat to meet your dad. A father and son that are big time into knives! Way cool!

Scott Dog, There will indeed be left handed production Umnumzaans. In addition to the alpha-numerics being dropped, there will be a fair number of refinements made to the design between now and production time. The prototypes are serving their purpose well -- you can do all the calculations, drawings, and computer modeling you want, but when you actually make the parts, assemble the product, and use it, so much is revealed.

I spoke with Anne on the phone Saturday afternoon. She was in great spirits, but said it had been a long day. Dave(Fooj), sorry I didn't get to talk with you this weekend, I know you were busy. Anne mentioned to me that right now there are no plans for a smaller version of the Umnumzaan, but you never know what the future holds. And also she said that any change in the final production run will be very subtile.

A hardy congradulations to the whole Chris Reeve staff for the two awards. I think it's quite something to come to the Blade show with an new, unreleased folder and walk away with the "Overall Knife of the Year" award. Very cool!

Blackend -- I thought I saw you over there, but wasn't sure it was you. The least you could have done was thrown something at me (blunt, of course) to distract me from the folks I was with! :)

Hope you enjoyed the show, and acquired many sharp things.

Well deserved for fine knives and even finer people.

Can't think of any company that deserves the award more. Excellent tools and excellent service.

Congrats
