Anyone have experience with this knife? I'm thinking of getting the tanto version of it.

There are some reviews on coldsteelforums.com

Lynn Thompson gets lambasted here on BF because he makes good knives, plain and simple. If I posted crap about Sal Glesser I'd probably get death threats. I'm patiently waiting for the 2010 R1s to ship and am also thinking about tanto, but I'll probably get both ;).

Carbide and all concerned,
They have shipped as I have one and it is a great knife. I got the clip point in plain edge and liked it so much I then got the Mini Ak-47. Heavy duty through and through, especially so with the tri-ad lock, sharp enough to shave arm hair out the box, carries well, and feels great in the hand . Need I go on?

Does the new Recon 1 still have steel liners? that lack of liners on the american lawman was the deal breaker for me.

Citizensoldier: yes, as a matter of fact you do need to post some pics bud! :)

My advise would be to get the spear point unless you plan on stabbing car hoods and 55 gallon barrels.
Tactical Knives had an article where they tried to make a semi-scientific study of point penetration, and the "Americanized Tanto" actually penetrated the least. If you are looking for a strong point, then the tanto version is what you want. Personally, I prefer the spear point.

Just wondering, why do you guys like the tanto better?
I like it for scraping as I need to do that in my work alot, it's also good for light batoning when a straight edge is preferable.

I believe the tip is a bit stronger too, but that isn't what motivates me.

So what gives them this strength and durability ...can we get some specifics?

the tri-ad lock does not depend on liners for the lock to work, and g-10 is really strong, In tests the blades often break before the g-10 frame, so in this case, liners would add to the weight but add no strength to the lock.
Also I prefer the lighter weight handle for better ballance. In spine whack tests the g-10 frames are great. See my AK-47 video, I'll bet not to many folders can take that much of a beating and still be useable even if they do not fai. As strong as the tri-ad lock is it's even more durable

I saw that video, ...I doubt a certain brand knife [ones with a hole in the blade, ;)] would be able to put up with that test, whatsoever, but I of course reserve judgement it would be great to see a side by side torture test. I had one of the original AK-47s, great job on that I carried it overseas it was the one folder I took along.

I would love to post pics but camera is nowhere to be found. I do have one pic of it laid out with my other knives. It will at least you give you a general idea of the size.

If G10 is strong enough to back the Tri-Ad lock, then I can't wait til my full custom version of the Espada comes from Demko!

I think that says it all right there.

I just want to thank you for this lock. A breath of fresh air it is. I'm pushing the Lawman hard to the guys in my Platoon. Hey somebody has to do it :D
