2010 Little Rock Knife Show Raffle Knife.

Nope, No good. You can't give that away as a raffle. Whomever gets it will feel bad. You should send it to me for proper disposal. I promise I won't be disappointed by any infer materials or workmanship. I am an easy guy to please.

Just kidding. That is a great piece. Hopefully the raffle gets enough tickets to make it worth all the effort and skill it took to make.

p.s. any chance for a bribe to rig the results in my favor?

Kyle,

That's a beautiful knife. The steel is great. I agree with STeven and Marcel about using 416 SS.

Thats also one of my favorites of yours. I think the steel is incredible and the composition of the whole piece works really well. Also like Kevin said, the rounded handle is really appealing. Nice work.

Looks great Kyle! Are you talking about angled tile welding when you say "slide" welding?

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying.

Lorien,

Slide Welding is where you take a billet of mosaic damascus with the pattern in the end and cut slices on a 45 degree angle. Then take the pieces (in this case four) and tack weld them together. After tack welding the pieces together I forge welded them into one piece. I'll do a progression thread sometime and show you how I do it with pictures.

Thanks for all the complements!

I have Stainless Steel in all the sizes I need, so I'll keep in mind that most of you like it here on the forum.

John,

I haven't done dry welding yet. Everything I've done was with borax. What are the advantages of dry-welding?

That Damascus pattern is incredible! I'd love to see you do a WIP thread on a pattern like that. It would be awesome to see your work being done.

Kyle, it is hard to beat your feather damascus, but you are sure trying! Great work. This one scores a lot of style points in my book. Well done!

thanks:thumbup:

This was the first time I've made this pattern and the first time I've done a slide weld.

Tell me what you think!

I think it's totally unfair that your first attempts come out like this. :D

Guess this means I'm gonna have to go to the L.R. show again next year -- despite the fact I've never won anything there except a flashlight (batteries not included).
