I wanted to share with you folks the knife I made for the American Bladesmith Society auction at the 2011 Blade Show. I'm pretty sure the auction will be Saturday morning (June 11) at 10am. And just to be clear, I did not win anything, the title is not an award. It just means my name was drawn from a pool of Js makers to build a knife for the auction to help support the ABS. It was my honor to do so. :)

-Ladder pattern fighter/bowie (300ish layers of 1084 and 15N20)
-416 ss guard/spacers/pin G10 spacers
-African Blackwood handle. (I put a little less drop in this handle than I normally would have, to try and make it feel a bit "faster" in hand)

The pics are video are pretty bad, but at least they'll give you an idea of what I sent to Atlanta. :)

BTW- If you like the pattern in this fighter, then my good buddy Mike Quesenberry is totally to thank as I have picked his brain apart on the subject (I think he's doing some of the nicest ladder patterns in the business). If you don't like it.... then just blame me for sucking! :foot: :o :)

Thanks for looking!!! :)

Nick the pictures and videos SUCK, do better next time. ;)

Actually i'm kidding and the knife looks gorgeous, I wish it were mine! Great shape and great ladder!

If you think I can get it for fifty seven dollars? Cause thats all I'll have left after whats being sent to me after the show. :(

very nice!
someone is going to get a hella score in the auction tomorrow.

hella sweet knife there, Nick:thumbup:

Thanks folks :) I wanted to point out that this is a really interesting piece of Blackwood that I got from my friends at Alpha Knife Supply about 6 years ago. It's very light in color (more so than the pics or video) and you can actually see the figure in it

For those of you that have handled much Blackwood, you know this is unusual! For those of you that haven't, let me just point out that Clarinets are NOT made from black plastic! ;) :D

Awesome work Nick. I wish I was going to be there. That would be an auction that I would make sure I won.

After getting off the phone with a friend I realized I should make sure it's clear that I made every part of this knife, including the steel. I just wanted to publicly thank my friend Mike because he has been amazingly generous in helping me to explore new ways of creating a ladder pattern. Any of you that know me, know that I'm not one to toot my own horn... but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about the steel. :)

Yeah, that ladder is tight! Really nice shimmer. Did you use a die or grind the pattern in? (I LOVE the knife, by the way)
