2011 Beckers

must be why i love the "let me google that for you" website so much?

mmm

nobody reads the FAQ either. *sniff* *cry*

Bladite

Yep, that there Google thing seems like a winner to me, too. Why, I even hear tell that there's a search feature right here on the Becker forum, but some people just can't be bothered.:D

Well I read the FAQ's. I'm sure that someone else must read them, too.

All I know for sure is, there might be a BK-5 in my future.

We know you’ve all been waiting, so here’s the word on the Beckers for 2011.

In the coming year there will be Beckers. No, no, there really will, and they’ll be great. There will be old standbys, and some new ones, too. The new ones will be different than the old ones, but just as good, except they’ll be newer.

I just hope I didn’t give away too much of what’s been planned. I know you’re all just as excited as I am about this announcement.

Word.
you forgot to mention that they will also come in any color you want, so long as you want black.

Well, there might be some variation in color choices for 2011, unless there isn't, in which case, black is what you wanted all along. I'm pretty sure about this, but it could change (or not) in the future.

I'm equally sure that 2011 will be a year that we've all been waiting for. Oh, and there will be Beckers.

Hope I haven't said too much.

So What! you don't like my answer too bad. I know what the answer is and I'm not the only guy who misses the Brute. Read what I wrote, I wasn't the one who had to start the wise guy routine.

i was actually thinking about a 10" long bk-2 last night since the bk-2's drop point keeps the spine's thickness as much as it can.

a special run of serialized, 10" bk-2s limited to 100 only for beckerheads?! :D

I just drooled on my keyboard a little bit.

No worries, its all in jest in here. There are ALOT of folks that want the Brute to come back. Bladite and DB have been here the longest and have heard the "Bring Back The Brute" chant, since Kabar started making Beckers.

Thats all. When you hear the same thing, over and over, and see threads created in its honor, over and over, sometimes it gets a little stale. Especially when there are newer products on the horizon, not that far away.

The Brute had its day in the sun, but much like other once and no more Beckers, it won't be back. I'll give you a quick rundown why:

Costs too much to make. Say what you want, but its got more grinds and more metal than any other Becker out there, TacTool included. Ethan prides himself and Kabar on the fact that you can buy a Becker today, for the same price it was 15yrs ago. Don't believe me? Check it out.

"Not one of my best designs"-Ethan Becker. He said that too me when we were up at Half Moon Ridge, doing the chop test. Ya'll can say what you want about its ablility, but I chopped with Ethan's Brute and Ethan's BK9 back to back. The 9 beat its ass, hands down. When the designer doesn't want it back, what does that tell you?

Old design, Kabar has their eyes on the future. Some of the tried and true designs have come back, kinda. All of the Becker products have went through "Tooojness". What does that mean? Though they be old designs, they have new tweeks added too them, to make them better, lighter, faster, and all around "Toooj-arificness" (that's a real word too). Pommel extension and hollow handle on the BK2, thinner, better edge geometry, and better balance on the BK9 (badass chopper), slightly shorter, thinner, better balanced BK5 Magnum Camp, sanmai BK11, with better heat treats for all of the Becker lineup. The only one that has basically stayed the same is the highest selling Becker knife to ever come out, the BK7.

All of the New Kabar/Beckers have been changed slightly, to make them a more viable product for the USER.

I have much love for the Brute, please don't get me wrong. The one I had was a club, and I eventually sold it or gave it away to someone. There is much love to be had in the Brute, and discussions about the Brute are always welcome. Please feel free to explore it.

Constantly making pleas for it to be remade are wasted, for the simple fact, they will not be remade through Kabar. Ever. That decision has been made, and stamped off on. Would you really want a Becker Brute if it cost $175? or would you like to buy a BK9, BK2, and a BK14 and get them for the same $175?

Thankyou for the wealth of information you have provided.

Think nothing of it, trailbum, it's all part of the service here. We like to keep everyone as informed as possible about all the possible things that could happen, or not, depending on whether they happen (or not).

Happy to help.:D

dawsonbob,I agree that a 10"BK2 would be great.Man,what a chopper that would make! But,I would like to see it offered as a production model.

I'm still holding out for the 14" ultra-mag camp knife...
although a BK16" with distal taper could be fun, too.

Ok, here's what I would like to see for 2011: 4-4.5" blade length, maybe 3/16" thick, drop point, with a slight recurve in the belly, standard Becker handle shape, with natural micarta scales, kydex sheath...hang on, I'm starting to drool...

Be on the look out for the Ritter/Becker Collab. Its got the look and feel of what you are talking about, should be out soon. If you do a goggle search of it, you can see the Ritter blade design, use some imagination, and couple that with the BK2. You'll get close. Not gonna hard to imagine soon though.

I also would like to see the BK10 reintroduced. That is one nice looking woodsbumming knife.
