So What! you don't like my answer too bad. I know what the answer is and I'm not the only guy who misses the Brute. Read what I wrote, I wasn't the one who had to start the wise guy routine.
No worries, its all in jest in here. There are ALOT of folks that want the Brute to come back. Bladite and DB have been here the longest and have heard the "Bring Back The Brute" chant, since Kabar started making Beckers.
Thats all. When you hear the same thing, over and over, and see threads created in its honor, over and over, sometimes it gets a little stale. Especially when there are newer products on the horizon, not that far away.
The Brute had its day in the sun, but much like other once and no more Beckers, it won't be back. I'll give you a quick rundown why:
Costs too much to make. Say what you want, but its got more grinds and more metal than any other Becker out there, TacTool included. Ethan prides himself and Kabar on the fact that you can buy a Becker today, for the same price it was 15yrs ago. Don't believe me? Check it out.
"Not one of my best designs"-Ethan Becker. He said that too me when we were up at Half Moon Ridge, doing the chop test. Ya'll can say what you want about its ablility, but I chopped with Ethan's Brute and Ethan's BK9 back to back. The 9 beat its ass, hands down. When the designer doesn't want it back, what does that tell you?
Old design, Kabar has their eyes on the future. Some of the tried and true designs have come back, kinda. All of the Becker products have went through "Tooojness". What does that mean? Though they be old designs, they have new tweeks added too them, to make them better, lighter, faster, and all around "Toooj-arificness" (that's a real word too). Pommel extension and hollow handle on the BK2, thinner, better edge geometry, and better balance on the BK9 (badass chopper), slightly shorter, thinner, better balanced BK5 Magnum Camp, sanmai BK11, with better heat treats for all of the Becker lineup. The only one that has basically stayed the same is the highest selling Becker knife to ever come out, the BK7.
All of the New Kabar/Beckers have been changed slightly, to make them a more viable product for the USER.
I have much love for the Brute, please don't get me wrong. The one I had was a club, and I eventually sold it or gave it away to someone. There is much love to be had in the Brute, and discussions about the Brute are always welcome. Please feel free to explore it.
Constantly making pleas for it to be remade are wasted, for the simple fact, they will not be remade through Kabar. Ever. That decision has been made, and stamped off on. Would you really want a Becker Brute if it cost $175? or would you like to buy a BK9, BK2, and a BK14 and get them for the same $175?
