Took a trip with my buddy(a beer snob) to go fly fishing yesterday. For a part of the two hour trip we talked about knives and in particular my 2011 forum knife and how great it is and so on. Come beer time my great knife would not open the bottles. What gives?? At least the fishing was good.

Some people reported this issue and reground theirs to work better. With no firsthand experience I cannot say more.
Problem or not, I still want one. :)

Nice fish!

Hunter, great pictures! I love the Bauer also. I had the very same problem with my bottle opener. I had to mod/grind mine a little and it's simply the best bottle opener I have now.

Yup, a quick bit of time on a dremel, and she's easy! Mine get's used quite often.

The grind on the lower lip is not parallel with the top grind. Just cut in a bit steeper, and you get a sharp enough ledge to pull the cap in one try.

edit to add: Nice work on that one, Paul!

That's just not right, tel you what, I'll take it off your hands just say the word, I've always been a generous sort and I can't let you keep on like that, I have a SAK that make things much better I could trade :)

Sounds like a trial & error sort of thing. Could be seeing double by the time I get it right from opening all those bottles.:D

I did a little Dremmel work on mine works great, another option some members mentioned was instead of a straight on lift, come off from the side a little and grab the cap crimp with the corner of the lifter.

Yes Ted, that angled fast method works well!

I got a test 5 out of 6 bottles to open like that, the 6th seemed tougher, something must've interefered with my technique:D:D:eek:

If all my other knives disappeared I think I could be satisfied with only that one. That is, if I did have one. I know this has been thought about many times but think GEC will ever put them into production?

Excellent pictures--that's a nice fly fishing set-up and a beautiful brown. I have Bauers on my salt water fly gear--they are excellent.

That 2011 knife is incredibly handsome. I agree with the others that it would be a really fine knife to put back into production. But I'd rather be fishing, given the option :D

Cheers,
Daniel

At the time they came out, a number of people had the same problem. The manufacturer said they would fix it if you send it in.

I've had my two 2011 Forum knives since they came out and I can say that I have never once used the cap lifter. I think that is mainly because the spring is so stiff that it is a major nail-breaking struggle to get it out. The main blade is great but not the cap lifter. This weekend I'll have to dig the knife out and see how it works on some IPA.

A wanted to buy statement in the signature line is acceptable. Much better than posting in threads.

I'm lazy, I go for the angle method and cursing. Usually there are 5 or 6 things handy that I can open a beer with in a snap. Or pop. Sorry.
