Mike - tradition holds that you pose for a pic with the award when you receive it, and post it to this thread so that we can all admire your smiling face in perpetuity. :D

you built a classy AND classic bowie-
´classic´ not in the meaning of ´boring´ but in a fresh sense:
perfectly made, clean and without frills.

And the same to all the finalists. That it was so close shows the depth of talent of the contestants.

speaking of 'depth of talent'- your votes seem to go up every year my man...

Thank you Roger for putting on such an electifying community event. I am proud that I'm allowed to help in my very, very small way.

Congrats to the winner! Thanks to Roger and Lorien for hosting this event, one of the 'funnest' here at BF... the bowie is truly the king of knives. As Bill Bagwell argues so elegantly in his fantastic book Bowies, Big Knives and the Best of Battle Blades, the bowie is truly the ultimate fighting knife. Executed properly, it is the ONLY big combat knife that can deliver the devastating back cut. This ace in the hole - courtesy of the curved sharpened clip point - is what makes this American classic so effective as a fighting knife. Of course its eternally fascinating and frustratingly obscure history and origins and the general mystique surrounding the 'old West' doesn't hurt either. Along with the Colt Peacemaker, it will always be an integral part of the American heritage of fierce independence and a fighting spirit. May it live forever!

Congratulation Mike, well deserved.
And thank Roger and Lorien for doing this again this year. Incredibly inspirational bunch of knives.
