Finally got the sheath finished on 2012. It is veg-tanned scraps w/ rawhide cuff, toe and on the belt loop. Dyed with homebrew Walnut stain and some simple Tribal scratching on the front.
Chopper is socket handled, wrapped w/ hemp. 18" overall w/ 12" sharpened. It was hand forged from a '46 Diamond Rio truck leaf spring in a charcoal forge.

Enough of these monsters for a while, I'm going to go forge a little skinner......Randy

Great whacker man, love the inter tribal sheath, a lititle Sioux/Cheyenne/Hopi mix ;-)) Great work Randy.

Best regards

Robin

Thanks Robin, actually the pattern is from a Crow shirt. I was stitching this one thinking of the Apocalypse of the American Indian 150 yrs. ago and decided to tie the two together. It is a pattern I have replicated in beads before and always liked it........Randy

Looking forward to your little skinner but like your choppers very much. They would serve anyone well after the Apocalypse.

And if the zombie Apocalypse doesnt arrive it'll split melons real well I think. I really like that walnot stain... you going to tutorial us on that ?

Pullrich, Thanks, I'll take pics the next time I make it. Pretty easy, just boil down Walnut hulls in water until it becomes like brown gravy , add more water, strain out the pieces and you have dye. Unlike vinegar, this will turn your hands a nice walnut color.

Thanks Howard, my arm is tired from all the choppers, a lot of iron to move by hand......Randy

Beautiful work on that chopper. Your work is truly original.

You and Robin are a bad influence on me:grumpy:, now i just have to make something sharp !!! :D

This is the beginnings of a primitive Sayoc Winkler axe I’m making. :o

Thanks Dusty and Terry, really appreciate it.
Edwood, I like that primitive tactical, they had to evolve from something good. Mr. Winkler made some of the finest forged knives and 'hawks ever seen before he got that tactical bug. Maybe he can get a pill for it and fire up that forge again.......Randy

I agree. I really like the look of the sheath on that for some reason.
