2012 CKCA Club Knife-Charles Vestal

EXACTLY right Bill. I realized 12:00 PM on Saturday does not allow me a fair chance to order as I will be at our annual Ridercoach meeting and will more than likely not have access to the internet. :(

Sorry Peter, but I think the choice of words is not aptly suited. You have a fair chance as much as anyone else, but circumstances may not allow you to participate.

I posted below in the CKCA thread, and it bears re-posting here.

"Charles is a great maker, and a buddy.....we work well together. I was very pleased when he agreed to make the CKCA Club Knives and more pleased that he agreed to do it for $500.00 including a sheath. That represents a solid good value for CKCA members.

Unfortunately when you have a great maker offering a great deal, many people will be interested. Kevin and I discussed ways to put the knife out there, and a drawing of some sort was suggested. It's a lot of work, and lacks a certain transparency...accusations can be thrown from the safety of the internets, even with a real name used. I have decided the older I get, the simpler I want to keep things.

This "free-for-all" offers complete transparency, and ease of selecting the "Lucky 13". If someone REALLY wants one of these, more than someone "lucky" enough to make the list, there is always financial encouragement."

Hopefully, it explains all, in a kumbaya sort of way.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Actually STeven, my choice of words is appropriate. In the words you bolded, you didn't include where I qualified the statement with "me". It was not a generalization to the process but to my specific circumstances.

I was not insinuating YOUR selection process was unfair!

Regards,
Peter

Fair enough, amigo.

Kumbaya boys !:p

I figure as long as we all know "the rules" that's about as fair as you can get !
Thanks Charles and STeven for doing this .....

and best of luck to everyone ....although I bet that even if there were 25 knives coming, there would STILL be more who want them than would be available :D

We are probably the only knife collector organization which offers "Custom Knives" as "Club Knives" which I think is pretty cool and very fitting for a custom knife collectors organization.

Because they are custom knives we will never be able to offer more than a dozen or two club knives in a given year. So they are aways going to be hard to get and I expect over the years they will become more and more collectible.

This is only our second offering so we are still experimenting on what's the best way to manage it. Even though I don't know what to expect on Saturday (heck the orders may blow our forum up   ;) :D) as Steven I do like the idea of the full visibility first come first serve system as opposed to an off-site drawing and us announcing the winning purchasers.

So let's see what happen, it should be interesting. :)

Not so, the Orgegon knife club does a custom knive every so often. Last one was in 2009 and was a Bill Ruple and they had 25 of them. Kind of cool for a club that doesn't specialize in customs and has a large show :)

Thus my using the word "probably" as I wasn't sure we were the only one. I will amend my statement to "we are the only organization offering custom club knives on a regular basics". ;) One of our member knifemakes has already commited to creating our third.

Last year, Karl Andersen created 21 knives and quantity will vary from year to year.

Our process worked out nicely as it seems most everyone who wanted a knife had the opportunity to get one as it wasn't an intense rush but all sold out in a little less than 2 hours. Ten were gone within 2 minutes of the thread opening.

This was fun in addition to being a great opportunity to get a very special knife/sheath at a very good price.

Can't wait to see them being finished up.

I managed to score one:D:D, It's going to have some exibition grade DI fitted. Can't wait to pick it up from Charles at Blade in June
