2012 Jimmy Chin Micro Show in Taipei, Taiwan

An astonishing journey shared by Ron and Jimmy.

This show was a triumph for both; richly deserved.

Thanks for taking the rest of us along with the great pictures and descriptions, Ron.

Magical.
Haven't enjoyed a thread this much in a long time.
Many thanks Ron Newton for the great writing and superlative images.
What an odyssey...the people and places.....and all those exquisite knives.

Great pictures, Ron. How much weight did you gain? :D If my history is not too fuzzy, those Mongol bows are made primarily from layers horn, sinew and hide type glue and take an extraordinarily long time to cure up. You also had to seal/wrap them for protection if you were going be be in a wet environment because they can delaminate. Seeing one unstrung is just as amazing because you get the feel for how much you have to bend the arms back to get it strung. What the traditional longbow does with heartwood and sapwood, the Huns and the Mongols did with, for a lack of a better term, the original "composite materials". The net result was that the bows could be shorter even though some of burlier ones were in that 175 pound pull range just like the biggest of the Welsh longbows. Great to see artists still making things like that even if we mere mortals cannot afford them.;)

Great thread! Interesting to read about a knife show in a part of the world that I don't really know a lot about.

All those food pics made me hungry! ;)

Kind regards,

Jos

Yo and I thoroughly enjoyed this thread. As Ken said "Thread of the Year". Congratulations on such a prestigious award, well deserved.

Happy New Year!!!

I also agree that this was a great thread. It started out with photos of spectacular knives and ended showing photos of a super knife show.

Congratulations to all involved.
