2012 lineups: who have we not heard from yet?

Sog and crkt, right? Anybody else?

Anybody heard rumors, speculations, scientific wildass guesses about either's 2012 lineup?

Kabar is the first one that comes to mind for me.

Becker has their tweeners (BK15, 16 and 17) and the Machax coming out this year, but are officially coming out at SHOT.

KaBar has some sort of "secret" knife in the works (according to the Kabar mods), but thats about all we know. Presumably we'll learn what it is pretty shortly though, as they just teased a few photos of the new catalog :).

have we heard from Cold Steel? I just checked the website and they still have the "new for 2011" button on the side. No mention of 2012.

EDIT: and at the bottom of this page, I see a thread about the new knives for 2012 from Cold Steel. They should make it easier to find on their web page.

Boker hasn't said anything about their 2012 line yet.

I posted a thread asking about it in their forum here and didn't get a reply.

Hey, y'all.

A thread on the new Cold Steel stuff is: here.
They've certainly been bringing out some interesting things the past few years.

Anywho, personally I'm interested in upcoming Condor Knife and Tool stuff...especially since they hint from last year about a full size kukri (from bladeshow, if I recall).
Ditto on Kabar.
And has anyone heard if Ontario is bringing out anything new?

i dont think i've seen anything from benchmade. and on a different note, i haven't heard anything from surefire either

That's what I have seen as far as a Kurki goes.

That Dundee Bowie is killer. I'm most excited about Kabar. Benchmade was the first company I've seen that had a complete compilation of all the new 2012 stuff. The Adamas 275 has me drooling madly. I may just spend more than 100 dollars for my first time ever on a folder. Is Kershaw's 2012 stuff up yet? I'd sure like to wrap my hands around a manual version of the Rogue-great blade profile. Clean, classy, functional...

After browsing the new Condor lineup, I think they are at a point where they should start offering a nicer steel on top of 1075 at a higher pricepoint. O1, 5160, 1095, L6, something along those lines, with better edge retention. With Joe Flowers cranking out these world class knife designs, I think some of these blades deserve a higher performance steel. The Pack Golok and Village Parang will be added to the collection, along with the Woodlaw and the Dundee Bowie. I'd really like to see a green river style knife from them.

Payette,

The blade looks great for the Dundee...but I'd rather see a wood handle.

The 2012 Kershaw catalog is up on their site...here's a direct link to the PDF.
Looks like they have a replacement for the Outcast, the Camp 10...looks alright. The JYD II definitely caught my attention!

One of the reasons I'm such a Condor fan is for their 1075. Their heat treatment is amazing, especially from the stuff coming out the last couple of years. I like it simple, you know? That being said...Dadao! Holy hell, that wasn't expected!
I'll be looking out for the Dundee, Warlock, and Pack Golok as well. And here's to hoping for a full-size kukri!
Hey, you know, if they're going to go in such an odd direction as a Dadao, I wonder what the chances are for a Condor Katana... :)

Adios!
Joe

I think the Dadao makes perfect sense given the Bush Cutlass they came out with a couple years ago. Chinese military swords were very machete-like, so a machete rendition seems appropriate! Check out the beastly thickness they're doing it in, too!

FortyTwoBlades,

That's what I'm sayin'! That's a true sword rather than a machete. 1/4" thick, wood handled and all!
Dunno if you can tell I'm excited or not. ;)

On a tangent, it's interesting to me to see the trend certain companies have been doing to take swords designs and turn them into machetes...and, damn, I'm a sucker for them!

Anyway, looking forward to the new releases. I'm doubting that this has been the whole of the new stuff...

Toodles,
Joe

Thanks for the link to the Kershaw PDF, that was great.

I wasn't expecting to find anything I wanted just because while I like Kershaw knives, I have been preferring knives with smaller-ish blades for EDC (2.5-2.75in) and most of their blades are 3in and over or 2.25in and under.

Then I saw the Cryo, and now I'm a bit interested. I would love to see one compared to the Boker Trance (the other main knife I am looking at in that size category). They also added a gentleman style folder to the mix as well (Kurai), so maybe I'll be more interested in some of their stuff than I thought.

I really only got "into" knives this spring, so how long after these new product releases do we get to start seeing them up for sale for most companies?

Condor was the early entrant into the sword/machete hybrid category with the Bush Cutlass two years ago, closely followed by Hanwei with their Tactical series (though not a true sword/machete hybrid it deserves inclusion in this general category) and Cold Steel with their 2HKM and Gladius. This year we see the introduction of the Kopis and Cutlass Machete from Cold Steel and the Dadao from Condor.

I'd just really like to see Condor make a baselard...*cough*Oberst*cough* :D

CRKT will be throwing in some photos of new stuff on facebook.
Here are the names of knives I dug out so far.
Folts S.P.E.W, CRKT tool, Mah eraser, kommer free range, m16 stainless handle, Collectable Octopus Cane.

Logan,

Honestly, any time from around March to the end of the year.
For Cold Steel, some things took until the Fall to come out...granted, they had production difficulties.
Most of the Condor stuff from this year began coming out around March and kept doing so steadily...the problem was that supplies couldn't keep up with demand and so it took until well into the summer to find some of the knives at a decent price.
For the others, I'm not sure.

FortyTwoBlades,

Indeed, sir, and I hope they keep coming!
A lot of people have criticized the designs...and, yeah, they're quirky...but I see them as lower-end sword-like beaters. Maybe not so utilitarian, but a lot of fun!

Idaho,

Thanks for the info!
CRKT had completely slipped my mind.
The Octopus Cane is already up on Knifecenter.

At the moment I'm poking around to see if I can find anything on Gerber, Hanwei, and Ontario.
Here's a possible update to Hanwei's Tactical Tanto...anyone know if this is legit or just a hopeful photoshop?

Alrighty, looks like Ontario is holding off until SHOT to reveal anything.
Hanwei has already shown their upcoming reenactors stuff, clothing, and chain mail and whatnot...interesting design for their new practice swords.
And...nothing so far on Gerber except some *retch* Bear Grylls stuff (which, in my reality, doesn't exist anyway).

I consider them to actually be quite practical. Costs less than full blown swords for playing around, but can also be used for legitimate machete work that would damage a regular sword. They also could be pressed into defensive use if need be, but of course firearms are a better option--for those who have them. I've taken to referring to swords/machetes in this category as "utility swords"...sort of like the larger version of utility knives, if you will! :D
