I voted Congress Jack. I'm on board with eisman on this.

I forgot what I voted for and can't check since it isn't a public poll.:p:D

Seriously though, my vote goes for a 2 blade Congress. Either configuration is fine with me.

Sorry all I had to run a couple of errands tonight. But Blaine is on top of it! Blaine came up with the list from what you all discussed in the recent forum knife thread. We discussed it and felt there was plenty to choose from.;)
I vote for the Congress as well.

Dave

Sodbuster was my first choice so I voted for it.

The Congress would have been my second choice, so if it wins, I will be just as happy. Peanut, whittler, sway back jack...any of these would be great choices. I'm definitely going to purchase at least one 2013 Traditional knife no matter what the final decision will be.

So, if I want an Eisenhower do I vote for pen?
And, if I want an Elephant toe, does that fall under rope/whaler?

Thank you for your time. Thank you for volunteering. Where do we send the Tylenol?

I like the example of the Congress Jack Eisman presented in the other thread. There are a number of patterns in the poll I like. However, I've voted Sodbuster as I think we could produce something really pretty special. I'm sure we will whatever the chosen pattern though. Hope everyone gets something they're happy with and thanks once again to Dave and Blaine.

I voted sodbuster because I also think we could do something unique. If I had second vote I would go with the TL-29. Looking forward to the end product and thanks to Spark, Dave Blaine and everyone involved behind the scenes!

I opted for Sodbuster as I'm in favour of a single blade (remember this means we can have better steel-440c and interesting handles-Ivory micarta while keeping budget reasonable)

I would prefer Swell End single blade but sigh....Or the single-spring knife Charlie posted sigh again:D

If this Congress or Congress J takes off I just hope it's better than the GEC version. Their Half Congress has a ridiculous Sheepfoot blade that is so short and it rides high-waste of a long handle frankly.

Thanks, Will

I voted for the copperhead because it is a favorite pattern of mine. Would have voted for a single blade sowbelly because they are special. Looks like the congress jumped out of the gate to a big lead. I'll be okay with that if it wins. Watching with interest.... :)

Congress Jack
Looking good so far, let's hope it doesn't get overtaken in the last second like last year ;)

To create the poll choices, I have looked through the unofficial discussion thread and picked out the patterns people had mentioned. I think we have plenty to choose from.

A few points to keep in mind for this poll thread:
  • We respectfully ask that you only vote if you're seriously interested in purchasing a forum knife. Voting doesn't tie you into buying; you may end up not liking it and decide to pass. That's ok; we just want to make sure people don't vote and vanish, skewing the results for everyone else.
  • Also, please don't worry about cover material yet. We'll get to that in due time. Let's just get past the first hurdle of picking a pattern.
  • If there is a clear winner, we should be able to move on to the next step. If there are two or more that are close when the poll ends, we may need a second round to get a good majority of people who are behind the final decision.
A couple more things to keep in mind about the choices:
  • Some of the categories are more broad than others, such as "pen". If one of those wins, we'll hammer out the details.
  • The smaller patterns may not fit the current tang stamp. This isn't meant to discourage you from voting for one, if that's your favorite. It's probably not an insurmountable problem, but is something to be aware of for time and cost, I suppose.
I'll keep this poll open until the evening of Saturday, Feb. 23. That will give people a week to think and vote.

Have fun!

I had a small Hibben/Spencer/Bartlett peanut from way way back with some bone handles that my grandfather gave me. I sent it to a friend and he copied it in a D2 blade Peanut. This was made for me by Jerry Barlow a while back with my two fave blade shapes built into it, the wharncliffe and the muskrat blade. Its a small cutting machine with faux ivory handles and nickle silver bolsters and liners and brass pins. I love it. Its become my favorite folder for traditionals since getting it. I never would have pictured me with such a small knife in my pocket but I really find its going to carry me into my old age quite well I think.

I'm gonna try to help out with some of the pattern confusion so I'll make a list here of a typical representation of each pattern listed in this thread, these will not be scaled they are just too give everyone an idea what each pattern looks like.

are there any qualifications to meet to purchase a forum knife? and how much do they normally cost (obviously depends on pattern and handle material, but about what ball park?)? Just curious.

Thanks,
Scott

Great selection. I'm not sure what I want just yet, but I'll get one anyway :) I'd probably want a scout most of all but it may be tough to keep it at/under the $100 target.
