After checking in on the 2013 Forum Knife thread today it sounded like there maybe a lot of members still "on the fence" about ordering this years knife. So, I figured I'd put together a little thread to help provide a little inspiration and/or motivation to everyone that hasn't pulled the trigger just yet. All knives pictured are congress jacks, or Irish jacks, the same pattern as this years forum knife. Take a look, provide your own pics, and send Spark some cash!!! ;)

Y'all enjoy.

oh if i had the $$ i would be all over this
alas real life isn't done kicking us ...and kicking us again while we are down.

meh that's perhaps overly dramatic, things are good, we just dont have much in the way of extra cash :/

Some beautiful examples! I'm excited about this years forum knife - it should fit into your family photo there nicely.

Nice pics, but I'm not sure the fence is about to get broken from the weight of members sitting on it. Members have either ordered or they haven't. The relatively low uptake may be due to other factors than 'fence-sitting'. Personally, I didn't particularly care for the chosen design, and I certainly didn't care for the price. Why, with the buying power we have collectively, it isn't less expensive is beyond me. Hope those that have ordered get their knife and the volunteers that have worked so hard deserve our thanks.

could someone post some good examples of Fine grained paper or linen micarta off white/ivory covers ?

cool. I've been wondering what its gonna look like.
Whilst the price didn't faze me too much I think Jack has made a good point re collective buying power.
A power that comes together year in year out such as this should make a blip on the knife manufacturers radars.
I don't wish to offend anyone but there seems to be plenty of notice about these annual projects and there's money to be made.Surely?
I'd ask whats happening next year if I was them ? Couldn't hurt could it?
Thanks for the pics 67Nick.

OH OH ! I've just seen "the other thread" .
I don't want to appear to be over simplifying this process . I understand how complicated it must actually be as well as time consuming. Beyond my level of business ability that's for sure.
I was completely confused and frustrated at the polling stage I must admit.
Having seen the above examples I'm more keen than ever.
With that in mind I don't think anyone is going to fall off the world if it doesn't go ahead. It would be a disappointment though.

ATTENTION ALL FENCE SITTERS-please ponder this slightly irreverent monty python link.

I think the price is in line, we are asking a company to create a custom knife basically. Last custom I bought was $400......
We all voted on everything from the pattern to the steel!
Those that are n the fence: I think you will regret not getting this knife. I got last years not really knowing what to expect, and was very impressed. GEC does some great work!!

And if you'd ordered 150 would you have expected a discount?

Personally, I think there's little to be gained from having a discussion about this. People have already had months to order one if they want to. If you placed an order hopefully you'll get your knife, and hopefully you'll be very happy with it. If you didn't, then that was also your choice.

Nice examples 67nick. I do think this year's knife is going to be a looker. I'm looking forward to getting mine.

I don't think it's been made yet. You might have too look at some of GEC's micarta and imagine an off white/Ivory type color with their micarta pattern.

I think a big part of the problem is simply that we have nothing to look at. No prototype, no photoshopped mock up, nothing. A lot of people who will want one once they see them are not going to lay out cash for "this is gonna be so cool!" Posting pictures of other knives won't help, and may lead to disappointment for anyone that does jump based on those picture, since those pictures are not what they get.

I just got my first two folders with a sheepfoot main blade. They are part of the TC Barlow series and now a part of my small TC collection.Thank you Charlie. To be honest in 50+ years of buying knives, a sheepfoot pattern has just never tripped my trigger.

I do have a fixed blade Bark River Tusk...Again it was purchased to complete a part of my BR Fox River collection. The Tusk is made from the Fox River blade.

I see that the knife was voted on by members, so I don't know way it hasn't taken off. I missed the voting on this one and will say that a sheepfoot would have not been my first choice.

Just my personal thoughts....To those who like the sheepfoot pattern, please enjoy it. I'm not disparaging the pattern. Just a personal opinion.

Here's the only pics I have of ivory linen,(on a fixed by Bill Akers) not the best, but hopfully you get the idea.
Beautiful stuff IMO & I'd have ordered the 2013 Congress Jack by now if I hadn't been laid off.

I believe GEC already had a prototype out with pics, I just can't seem to find them atm...

As for linen micarta, here are a few examples although none are from GEC...

Congress jacks are a great pattern, don't ya think Eisman? I've been looking for an FnR in Jigged bone for a while but haven't been able to find one. Are the covers original to the knife? I should get home a little earlier tomorrow so I can take some pics of the FnR Irish Jack with cell covers, it's a looker and I think you'll like it.

In any event, thanks for all the pics and posts, keep em' coming!!! :)
