Hey guys, curious about interest in another mini knife KITH this year. Traditionally I would start it on April 1 and let it run though the weekend following 4th of July. I know there has been some comments about changing the timing in the past, so I thought I would start a thread where people can propose ideas for timing or anything else pertaining to the mini KITH.

Some of you guys who have participated in the past, please feel free to comment, anyone new is also free to comment, but this KITH has a very high dropout rate with new makers. Many have found out how difficult it can be to make a good looking functional mini knife, and many have found great satisfaction in completing one. I am looking to maximize the amount of completed knives and happy new owners.

I'm open to all ideas and comments regarding this KITH.

Cheers

Time frame sounds good to me. I just got some damascus scraps from Howard Clark, so the steel in the knives will be top notch this year.

I don't think the specific timing of a KITH really matters. You're giving folks three months to complete a project. If they can't do it in three months, it doesn't matter when the thing starts, they'd still procrastinate and miss the deadline.

Since I have some nice stainless scrap this year, I might jump in to make a tiny kitchen knife.

I'm in. I don't care when. I have about 1000 small pieces of 15n20 in a coffee can waiting to inspire me for the kith.

Finished to acceptable standards of a full sized knife, meaning all the care and attention paid. Also, heat treated and generally of sound construction.

There are many things that can be done on a mini that don't work on a full sized knife, like using superglue for scales, but are sound methods of construction on that scale. Also, making sure the knife is true to scale, typically thickness is the hardest part for most people.

I would be interested in participating in this years KITH. I will need to find a REALLY big dime, first.:D

Is 1:3 a good mini?
I have some 2.2mm steel (wich is close to 1/3 of 1/4" steel)

I know I said I would participate this time, but since I am about to shut my shop down for some months, that won't happen this time. So I'm out.

OK, I'll set mine aside. I will probably run the Christmas KITH this year if the folks want me to. No need to discuss details about it here. I'll post a new thread in a couple months.
