I've been fortunate to watch this show grow. It's got a good mix of makers, yet it's a hardcore theme.

The Hotel IS in NJ, but it literally overlooks the Hudson river and Manhattan with a view of the Freedom Tower.

The list of attending makers and dealers is BIG! Exhibitor List - Click here

Here's the details for those within driving distance:

Susan and I will be there Friday morning through Sunday noon. Staff photographers on site for the makers.

For the first time, I am driving back on Saturday morning to pick up my 12-yr-old son Trevor. It's about time he experiences a good Knife Show and starts to 'work' with us.

As we ALWAYS do, on Saturday eve, we take the PATH train into NYC and have dinner at Buena Notte in Little Italy.

See if you can make it to NJ for one of these exciting days. :)

After missing so many shows, I can't wait to get to this one since I actually live within driving distance!

^^^ Yes, sure can. Just show up.

Hard to believe that Trevor is 12. Seems like yesterday you announced the birth here. Hope he has fun and you don't make him work too hard. Never too soon for him to start collecting either if he is interested.

See ya there Jim

I'll be there working the DISKIN USA Booth

Might have a prototype new DA to shoot buddy :)

Sweet, excited to see it. I need to find a fire on the used market.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in New Jersey. We have a $5 discount coupon for anyone looking to get a Collector Pass: http://www.KnifeRights.org/images/Knife-Rights-Coupon-NYCKS-2015-584w.jpg

A reminder that the reason we are in New Jersey is because of New York City's persecution of knife owners and retailers. Click here to read more about Knife Rights' Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit against NYC and DA Cyrus Vance, Jr.: http://www.kniferights.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=234&Itemid=1

Also, a reminder is is ILLEGAL to sell or trade, or to offer with intent to sell, anything with Ivory or Mammoth Ivory. I strongly suggest you leave them at home.

Also, switchblade (automatic) knives are illegal, NO EXCEPTIONS, and it is a FELONY offense in New Jersey and not much better in New York! Please, I don't want to get another call this time about someone arrested with switchblades and looking for an attorney!

And, for anyone going into NYC: NO CLIPS (COMPLETELY Concealed Carry ONLY!), NO LOCKING BLADES and NO BLADE 4-inches or longer.

Be careful out there!

Can't wait for this weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone as much as I'm looking forward to seeing the knives.

It's a great show, great town, great venue. Mrs. Scurvy and I love going to eccks/nycks even more than Blade.

Jim

Thanks for the great "Promo" -hopefully, forum members who haven't been there before will be persuaded to make an appearance at this cool show!

I'll be there Sat as always and will stop by to say hi

one thing I would add to the info - park at the garage right next to the hotel - cheap and easy. Do NOT park in the shopping center parking lots - you WILL get an expensive ticket!

From our perspective the show was a BIG hit. The line in on Friday extended up down three floors into the lobby. Yes, LOTS of tactical inspired attendees.

We were moved to a smaller, but more visible room this year. We liked it a bit more, as the windows looked over the Show hall lobby. People could see us working. :p

However this wasn't the BIG news of this show for me/us...

I promised I would bring my son Trevor (12) to this show to give him an idea of what happens while we disappear for three days (and how we earn a living, too!)

After arriving early on friday, setting up and shooting the entire day, Susan and I were exhausted. However we promised maker/friend/client Pete Pruyn (pronounced 'PRINE') to join us for dinner. We walked to Bertucci's and had an exceptional meal together, sharing stories. (Pete is a past Nassau County, NY officer and detective I learned. Knifemaking in Oregon is a new chapter in his career.)

The next morning I was driving out of the hotel at 5:27am. At 6:24am I was in my driveway in CT. (I drove THIS route: Holland Tunnel, West Side Highway, Cross Bronx Expressway, New England thruway. Can you imagine how I made it so quickly???!!) I picked up Trevor and we made it back around 8:00am. Whew!

Trevor (Our nickname: T-Rev) was a hit. He's a polite and energized young man and loved being a runner for us as he learned how to read the show hall map. Everyone he met was greeted with his smile and a firm handshake. That's my rule, and now his standard.

We sent him to visit Pete Pruyn, and by late morning had approached me with a knife purchase he wanted to make. Between his salary I'd pay him for working with us here, and Susan's suggestion of a contract to walk our dog for (6) outings without argument, he was given the funds. (He's up to four of the six as I type....)

Here's Pete, Trevor, and his transaction captured by Susan.

Here is his selection. Note the heavy display of attractive skulls. Cool choice!

Yes he's in the credit line. We selected the background together (his final choice) and after I set it up he clicked the actual captures on the camera. (I tell him it's Sharp By 'Coop' not Sharp By 'Jim' ;))

Now this wasn't his only item. As soon as Steve D'Lack met him, Steve grabbed a valuable folding Tactical Invitational dagger and gifted it to him. I walked with him around the show and introduced him to RJ Martin, who adorned his head with his cap. Michael Zieba is knocking it out of the park with all his wares and GAVE him a samurai skull. (Not shown: a buffalo nickel carved into a skull by Pete)

His NYCKS swag was notable.

More maker's knives next....

Trevor is a fine young man and it was a pleasure meeting him :)

Great job on my sword Jim I wil be doing something soon with the wonderful pics my friend

The NY/NJ shows have a strong following, and the Tri-state area collectors are the BEST.

Bob and Bill Bennett (father and son) always swing by just to say hi. Carol Bennett (the mom) bakes up THE most tasty brownies, and we are among a select few to capture a treat. She really goes out of her way to make it special. (I don't know how I let the guys escape without a quick cell phone selfie. My bad.)

Thank you to the Bennett's !!!

Barry Lee Hands brought me THIS Kevin Casey collaboration with Konstatin Pushkarev he purchased. Now that's credibility.

Speaking of Kevin, he brought me a couple on his own:

Awesome so far Jim. The brownies and the Erickson dagger are both making me drool. :)

Take a lonnnnnng swig of coffee and look over these pair of AKI knives by Ron Lake (owned by Steve D'Lack). Every inlay was hand fitted.

Ron called me tonight to ask for a print and thank me for capturing them.

Back down to earth a little more, Kevin Cross makes usable and affordable kitchen knives. This is a sweetheart.

That's all I have for the moment. I'l fill this thread up as I finish more. I have many.

Thanks for viewing.

Great pics as always - and nice narrative as well!

Glad your son enjoyed the show - I remember when I used to bring my son Will to these shows - the knife makers were always so nice to him !

He still has his RJ Martin hat and the hat Bob Dozier gave him as well...plus the memories that go along with all of it.

Have to enjoy your kids when they are "little" - they grow up fast, and might even end up all the way across the country !

Hmmm, gives me even more incentive to go to the next AKI....

Bill
