I hope those 45 aren't all the new versions of the Bantaam.
A lot of people seem to like the Bantam. I find this style of knife pretty generic but <shrug> a lot of people buy Camrys too. This would seem to be the perfect candidate for a linerless G-10 upgrade. Either that or the Bucklite Max.
This is all totally my opinion and may be unfounded, but in my opinion the Bucklite was the predecessor to alot of knives that are currently popular. I'm not saying others copied it or anything but others saw a lightweight knife with a blade of around 3 inches give or take and went with it and developed more on the idea. Put a delica or mini griptilian side by side with an old Bucklite and look how similiar they are. I don't really like the current Bucklites. I'd like to see them bring back a Bucklite made of rough FRN, valox, or paperstone but make it thinner than the old more in lines of a Delica or mini grip and with a removeable pocket clip in wide choice of colors and I think they would sell well. I know alot of folks like the Delica and griptilians.
I think you're describing the now discontinued Ecolite series, which I think they should bring back. Imafritz's nice shot...
But, the Ecolite failed, or was pulled. IMO, Buck doesn't need another knife with thumb studs and a pocket clip. What I want to see from Buck is a version of the 110/112 that is
AS BEAUTIFUL as the 110/112 but that can be pocket carried. The Ecolite fell short on several points, but I'm convinced it the best way forward. Just needs some adjustments and a reboot.
To help visualize some of my suggestions, here is the GEC made Smith and Sons Mudbug, which I think is firing on all cylinders in the beauty department.
Suggestions to improve the Ecolite 110/112.
Make it thinner - The 110/112s are 15.5 to 16mm thick. The 500 is 13mm at the widest and 10mm at the spine. The Case Sodbuster is 14mm. I find that a 14mm knife like the Sodbuster carries much, much better in the pocket while still giving that thumb friendly back that I expect from the 110/112. The Ecolite was just too chunky in the pocket for me. Thinning it would help immensely.
Loose the finger grooves - and trust the classic lines of the 110/112 frame. The 110/112 are beautiful knives. If I want a Buck with ugly finger shaped thingies on the handle, I'll get a Bucklite Max, which has a very comfortable grip.
Use a larger bird's eye rivet at the blade pivot - This would strengthen the joint and give a place to add a bit of flurish. I would add "Buck" to the rivet.
Use full length liners - The Ecolite's partial liners caused two problems, IMO. It gave the knife a hollow, cheap feel and it was uncomfortable, as the Paperstone was actually sharp. I'd suggest brass liners because it would be a more beautiful contrast with the deep color of the Paperstone. I found the Paperstone to be beautiful looking but I think it would look even better contrasted with traditional brass.
Add a lanyard hole - It's the right thing to do for large traditional pocket carry knife. Should be brass lined to match the brass liner.
Full flat grind - There... I said it. It's time. Buck's clip point would look stunning with a full flat grind. Buck should offer at least one version of the 110/112 with a full flat grind. This should be that one.
