2017 Discontinued List

Wait, if the Recon XL Tanto is discontinued and the XL Clip is discontinued (which I thought it was) then doesn't that mean the XL Recon line is discontinued?
I'm really surprised the entire Hold Out and Talwar lines are discontinued. I guess they'll have some new folders for 2017!

Between the mini AK, mini Lawman, mini Recon 1, and Hold Out III being axed, that does away with their approx-3" blade offerings. I wonder if they're leaving that size folder behind completely or if there will be some new offerings at that size.

I'm very surprised about the Hold Out series. Those are such a simple, utilitarian design that I didn't expect to see them go.

FYI guys. Discontinued models include Talwar, Holdout, Mini Recon 1 and Mini Ak-47... :(

Noooo, the Hold Out is gone too!? Thanks for posting.

I guess that is the case. It's a shame to see that great handle design gone.

Agreed, the HO II is a fantastic EDC for my uses.

BladeHQ has both the brown and green Hold Out II in stock.

I'm not very happy with Cold Steel for this. Last year they chopped the Large Voyager Vaquero (my favorite of all the voyager sizes and blade shapes), and now some of my favorite folders from them are being discontinued. I've always liked their smaller, lighter, and more pocket friendly designs, such as the Mini Recon and Mini AK47. Not giant bricks like the rajah, espada, spartan, colossus, and full sized AK47 that's a joke of a knife IMO, which has such a huge handle on a moderate sized blade, and heavy as all what not. Sorry for the rant, just not very happy that my pocket friendly Cold Steel's (and the only ones I carry) won't be able to be replaced if something happens to them.

I am angry as well.

Hold Out series were my favorite amongst all CS Folders. Kithcen, outdoors, EDC, you name it.

Got the L, XL, Special editions, serrated, plain edged, AUS8, CTS-XHP models...why they hell discontinue these?

Ultra versatile blade shape, really light and thin, neutral handle, excellent grind... WTF?!? Cold Steel you're losing me there

I really hope they come up with something new and awesome, 'cause the Talwars and H.Outs were very hard to beat

I don't think it's a mystery why a model is discontinued. Poor sales. As much as we like the Hold Out Series that doesn't mean it's necessarily very popular.
It's pretty likely there will be some deals this holiday season.
Looking forward to the 2017 catalog!

Yes it is always sad to see our favorite knives be discontinued.

The Talwar was in production for three years and the Hold Outs for five.

But if they are being discontinued, hopefully it means that there are new knives in the works for 2017.

Now is the time to look for these discontinued knives.

Once the supply sells out, they can be very difficult to find.

I have a felling I'm gonna go broke buying XL Talwars over the coming months.

sad to see the talwars and hold outs go. rest i dont care so much about.

guess im gonna have to grab a few of each before gone.

I'm very surprised about the Hold Out. I've always considered them to be a standout in the CS line up. Guess I better get a couple more while I still can.

And finally pick up that Talwar I've been meaning to get.

Sorry to see these go. I got Talwar XLs both plain and fully serrated, I also got the blue handled regular Talwar, so I'm good on those. Got a full serrated Hold Out 1 but it looks like I'm gonna need to snag a plain edged one while I can.

Just picked up an XL Hold Out serrated... it was the last I needed to finish my CS XL folder collection....not sure why I waited so long to get a hold out, but it seems now's the time... I was able to track one down for 79.00 with free shipping so....I could justify that considering the discontinued status.

Just hopeing the serrated was the right choice..... maybe I should grab a second in plain edge before its too late.....what you guys think?.....is the plain edge worth having as well or does it become a bit redundant?

I don't understand the thinking at CS lately. The Talwars and Hold-outs are very cool knives especially in the XL versions [luckily I've already got both] Instead of dropping these models they should cut the execrable Broken Skull which aesthetically doesn't fit into the Cold Steel line-up and shouldn't have been offered in the first place... hey you guys don't thinks it's possible that somehow PeeWee Herman is running the show at CS these days do you?

No need to throw insult like that... I dont even know what you meant by the "Cold Steel aesthetic".
I for one like the Broken Skull, it's one of the best EDC knives that CS has come up in years. The size to weight ratio cannot be beat and there is nothing wrong with the aesthetic IMO. I like the fact that CS is experimenting using multiple colored handle.
While it's sad that some of our fav models are being discontinued, i think that CS is moving to the right direction by offering more EDC friendly models so that more people can enjoy using it.

well that settles it. I'll be picking up an XHP Holdout 4" to accompany my beloved AUS8a version. IMO the 4" Hold Out is one of the best knives CS has ever brought to the table.

I'm not sure how I've insulted anyone [,maybe poor little Steve Austin?] I bluntly expressed my dislike for the Broken Skull [ while stating my admiration for two other CS folders] while you let us know how much you like the Broken Skull. As far as my claim that the Broken Skull doesn't fit the CS aesthetic goes; I've got Cold Steel catalogues dating back at least 20 years. I don't recall seeing any knives that look like the BS [broken skull] I would bet that if unidentified photos of the BS had been made public very few people would have guessed that Cold Steel was the maker.
