2017 Discontinued List

I'm not sure how I've insulted anyone [,maybe poor little Steve Austin?] I bluntly expressed my dislike for the Broken Skull [ while stating my admiration for two other CS folders] while you let us know how much you like the Broken Skull. As far as my claim that the Broken Skull doesn't fit the CS aesthetic goes; I've got Cold Steel catalogues dating back at least 20 years. I don't recall seeing any knives that look like the BS [broken skull] I would bet that if unidentified photos of the BS had been made public very few people would have guessed that Cold Steel was the maker.

Actually the Broken Skull is an exact copy of the Cold Steel Lone Star Hunter but with more modern materials. Obvious Cold Steel product to me.

well that settles it. I'll be picking up an XHP Holdout 4" to accompany my beloved AUS8a version. IMO the 4" Hold Out is one of the best knives CS has ever brought to the table.

I agree the hold out II is an all time great EDC. Get the XHP version for sure, the thinner G10 is a noticeable improvement. The weight to size/strength ratio is tough to match.

That's interesting information. So the BS is a copy of another older crappy design! I own over 75 Cold Steel products so I usually love their stuff . My eyes must have just bounced off the Lone Star in whatever catalogue it was shown. I have to agree that the blade does look like the usual CS clip point shape with the blade widest just before the clip which I find spectacularly unattractive. That's why the only XL folders I don't have are the Recon and Vogager clip points.

Making a big mistake there CS. The Talwar is one of my favorites. I was about to get another one in serrated. Oh well. I just hope they don't remove the black talon and the Natchez/ Laredo bowies. Looking forward to new and improved Talwar 2 in XHP.

Wait, if the Recon XL Tanto is discontinued and the XL Clip is discontinued (which I thought it was) then doesn't that mean the XL Recon line is discontinued?
I'm really surprised the entire Hold Out and Talwar lines are discontinued. I guess they'll have some new folders for 2017!

I see that as good news actually. If you one didn't care for model X, and or had years to buy it, then no biggy. Actually it's a positive. :)

Hate to see the Holdout go. My Holdout 2 is a great edc blade. May get a backup.

Really sad to see the Talwar go :( Guess I should order my xhp version while ilI can.

It means new designs. If a knife does not sell in the numbers it needs to, in order to continue justifying production, it will get dropped. Continuing to maintain knives that are not selling, will cause prices on other models which do sell, to rise, so that costs are offset. That would ultimately affect sales across the entire line.

Cold Steel has a business model which it follows. At the end of the day, they are in the business of designing and selling knives. If specific knives don't sell, then what do you expect them to do?
