2018 Resolutions

I'm going to try and end 2018 with fewer knives than I have now. I don't know where I'll find the time to post them for sale, but we'll see...

My resolutions are to find a vintage carbon steel slipjont at a yardsale...ect , and to make a project out of an old hickory or some kind of vintage carbon steel kitchen cutlery I can find for cheap.

There's also a couple Buck folders I'm interested In and may potentially acquire.

I don't really have a resolution but I would like to find an original Northfield knife in decent condition in a pattern that appeals to me. There is something about the history of the Northfield brand that intrigues me more than any other vintage brand. I would like to own just one.

It is time for quality over quantity. So for 2018, I resolve to sell more knives than I buy, and reduce my collection by at least 25%. I'll still have more than I need, but it's a start, anyway.

Jeff, I am having very similar thoughts. I would like to move about 50% of my accumulation over the next year. Never easy culling the herd but it needs to be done. Of course this cleansing needs to be supported by fewer purchases as well. I could always make it policy to sell 4 knives for every one purchased?

The only knife I plan on buying next year is the 2018 BladeForums knife, if one is made available.

"Plan" being the key word. Who knows how many knives will catch our eyes and suddenly we buy a knife we never planned on.

I don't plan on any in the next year (or so), but I hope to pick up a knife like I have in my sig, and maybe a custom or 2 if I can afford it.

I'm just going to stick to the 2-blade or single-blade models as I just can't get used to more blades than that for daily carry. Simply not buying the multi-blades will save me a bunch (hopefully) since that was a fair portion of my traditional purchases this year thinking stockman and whittlers would be great for me only to find out they weren't for how I use my knives.

Well, I did well with my 2017 knife resolution when I vowed to off-load many knives and only buy scout knives, fixed blades, and the BF knife of the year.. I gave away a couple of dozen knives. I bought a few scout knives. I bought only one fixed blade (an L.T. Wright NextGen) early in the year. I also bought then gave away the 2017 BF knife.

For 2018? I'm going to off load/give away some fixed blades and restrict myself to buying scout knives and the BF knife (if there is one). I'll end the year with less knives than I now have.

For 2018, I am hoping to liquidate about 3/4ths of the knives I own, possibly more...

I'll carry this in my pocket every day in 2018. Already started a couple of weeks ago. Put a replacement bail on it last week.

CKCo Colonial with a repired/regroup main blade. Don't know why but it just speaks to me.

2017 was a big collecting year for me, and a year of many firsts. I promised my wife I’d wait a year to buy any more (I do want to sell a few) and then buy only one per year. Having some discipline means making the most of my limited budget and also means scrutinizing my yearly choice to something I’m sure to love and enjoy carrying and using. I know I’m not able to buy a knife I won’t use, because I love using my knives and not just looking at them or having a collection (not that those are bad; just not for me); so I’ll be asking you folks lots of questions about knives you have that I may be considering!

Sounds like a similar theme but I plan to sell off quite a few knives in early 2018 with a focus on keeping the ones that I actually use. With the money I may pick up one custom that I will plan on using quite often.

For me, 2018 will be about refinement. I'm going to get rid of what I don't see myself carrying. I want to make sure to get use, and enjoyment out of any knives that I buy in 2018.

2017 was a year of trying lots of patterns for me and determining what I liked/carried.

2018 should see some of them go to a new place and maybe find some more of what I like

With everybody planning a big sell off it means that some very tempting knives are going to become available....thus compromising the less buying mantra :D:D

I hope to get a couple of the collection re-handled in materials I like more. I could do with a Stag Sharpfinger but I never see really interesting ones...;)

Pay for the new pickup I just purchased. ;)
No firearms. Zip....
Oh knives.... buy fewer knives and ones I will hopefully use. Paired it down in 2017 and I hope to half that number again in 2018. I think a lot of people are doing that if you judge by the number of GEC knives at KSF. I still reserve the right for an impulse buy or two.
