I like the looks of the Matchstriker better than the Standard , but I have tried to strike a Match on the Matchstriker a couple of times and was never successful with it . Maybe someone else has better luck striking a match on them ???? I really

Sorry if this seems like a dumb or insulting question, Harry, but were they strike-anywhere matches?

I really am not sure if they were or not Barrett ??? I did the simple test a couple of years ago . Maybe I should do the test again ?????

For reference using the given example and NF(ish) bolster...with/without matchstriker and with/without end cap.

Thank you. This was most helpful. Looking at the images, I feel that the match strike with the swedge is too much(less is more). The swedge is enough of an embellishment. I still feel that with the wood covers, if that will end up being the choice, will be better served, design wise, by choosing the bare end option. Sigh...If only the top could be fluted.

The reason I ask is, it wouldn't work with the strike-on-box matches that are most common now, as they require the red phosphorus strip on the side of the box to ignite. Strike-anywhere matches, on the other hand, have everything built into the match head, so you can strike them on any rough surface. Those would be the only matches that would work with a matchstriker pull. Of course, using a matchstriker pull to light a strike-anywhere match is pretty unnecessary. As the name suggests, you can strike 'em just about anywhere. :D

It's coolest to strike them on your boots (cowboy or biker).

I like the look of the match striker better, but the last match striker GEC I got was rounded and therefore less easy to use than the normal long pull.

Tough one, going for matchstriker just because. But I won't be disappointed either way. Should've just abstained...

This forum can inflict serious brain damage. Common sense is prohibited here. Who carries a pocket full of kitchen matches to the office to start random bonfires with their GEC Sheepsfoot?

Like 75+% of the characteristics of a traditional pocket knife, it's more about aesthetics than utility.

I normally like a match strike slightly more than standard, but in this case, I believe there’s already so much going on with the lined bolsters and sabre grind that the match strike may seem a little too busy. Almost like a rough rider look. I’m in on this thing regardless. JMO

i would like to see a match strike, it looks good in a classy way.

I voted matchstrike since I haven’t seen it done on a sheepsfoot yet by GEC.
