Trust me, my vote for ebony will certainly be moved to african blackwood if necessary. And I will vote for blackwood regardless IF it is certain there is a greater chance it will be BLACK.I like both the ebony and the blackwood. I voted for blackwood as it seems to have the best chance to win. If any of you want a black knife, this may be the wisest move. Early polling indicates a tight race between blackwood and bloodwood.
So far my vote is for Ebony, but seeing the Osage on the left, combined with it having that kind of character, along with the possibility of it darkening over time, makes this, in my mind, a strong contender. It’s beautiful.I get the feeling half the voters think ebony/blackwood is boring, and the other half will be disappointed if it doesn't come out "none more black"
Is bloodwood one that darkens over time? (osage does, too) That's good to know, if folks are voting for it because of the red color.
I'm having a tougher time with this choice than I thought I would.

CD I have a long relationship with Bois d'arc and have seen a host of knife handles and pistol grips made of this tree. While the occasional piece can be extra nice, the vast majority tends to be very plain straight grain an somewhat underwhelming.of it darkening over time, makes this, in my mind, a strong contender. It’s beautiful.
Mike mentioned it in the main thread.A couple of you have mentioned that the brass pins will be an odd mix with black wood (which I agree with),but I can’t find where the pins are set as brass??
Black wood doesn't look good with brass pins and liners IMO. I voted for bloodwood.
Yes, Bloodwood does darken overtime. Only slightly if not used, more so when used from oil and dirt working into the wood. I’ll post pictures when I get home.I get the feeling half the voters think ebony/blackwood is boring, and the other half will be disappointed if it doesn't come out "none more black"

That's what I'm thinking....I voted for Buck in the first poll. When GEC won, I thought I wouldn't be buying the forum knife. However, since then, the polls have gone the way I wanted, so if it keeps up, I will buy one. I do have a question. If you voted for wood, then voted for a solid black wood, why? To me, the reason you want wood is for the figure and so each person gets a unique knife. I've only owned 2 GEC knives and one was a #15 in solid black ebony. To be honest, it was pretty boring and GEC seems to make a lot of ebony handled knives, so it's certainly not unique.
