I like 3. I just prefer western handles. I need to make a pile of wa handles but I haven't gotten around to it. I do like that they use less steel. Those 11.5" pieces from AKS are pretty had to get a full size knife out of if you do western handles.

The 23.5” x 2” work great for 2 hidden tang kitchen knives.

So, it looks like profiles 1,2, and 4 are the choices. Is three ok JT?

Should that be 1, 2, and "4"? Are 2 and 4 similar except for length?

I edited it. Yes, quite similar except length. One is full tang, the other hidden tang, but that could be changed on either.

Did some pin hole tests today and I’m considering switching to just popping a start hole and drilling after. What’s you thoughts?
1/2” to .062” the .062 is just a pop to drill later.

I sorta like that idea - I think most any of us can use the .062" hole as a guide to drill after HT just fine, and it's small enough if it's decided later to make a full tang to hidden tang the holes are small enough not to be a problem. BUT - as Willie says, "JT, you know best". {g}

The issue I have was I can’t guarantee a perfect hole size so if it cuts small it would have to be drilled anyways which would be harder if only removing a small amount of material. My thought is I can drill the holes here befor heat treat for people that can’t or don’t want to do it them selves.

I think the pinhole is a smart move.

I myself will be doing mine here, so you guys pick what you want. Is it hard to have options of with or without holes? I don’t want to volunteer you for too much JT. I’ll e-mail you the scans as soon as I get the thumb drive from my wife. She had them scanned last week.

Hey Willie, if you want, you can send them to me and I’ll trace ‘em in Inkscape and send them to JT in whatever format he wants...
Try to spread the workload out a bit...

I’ll see what format my scans are in. Sure, it it helps i’ll send them.

Cool. Alanmcp4 at gmail it’ll take me until at least wed. to get them done so if there’s any rush...

My wife forgot to get the scans. The print shop in rural Alberta is closed on weekends. I’ll get them myself tomorrow when I head into the city.

Stright to me. Will only take me an hr or so to trace around them and get them scaled correctly.

Also playied around with the start hole and did a batch like this. It’s really just a centerpunch mark. Only about half way through. After I knocked all the dross off I drilled them with a 1/8” carbide burr and stepped to a HHS drill bit for final size, Worked perfect. I tryied a carbide center drill but thoes things are historically picky about everything. The little carbide burr went through it like butter.

That’s exactly how I do it in my shop. The carbide burr goes through pretty much everything.

Part number and source for that carbide burr? I've been using carbide drill bits and as said they can be picky.

The one I had on hand was a measure of last resort as my carbide center drill gave up the ghost lol. Dug around in my box and found it hoping it would get me through this order. But man I was quite impressed impressed. It does not like soft steel as it will gum up but the hard dimple from the plasma it just loved. I will take a pic of it in a few min.
