Price point is vital for some. In the 2018 Blade Forums Comments thread, there were quite a few that said they could only get one because of the sub one hundred dollar price. One fellow went so far as to say the 2018 Forum knife was the only knife he had ever spent $71.00 on.

That said, the manufactures that are willing to make our forum knife are few and far between - the emphasis on few. It is my understanding that for the 2018 knife, GEC was too busy to work us in and blew us off. So, we may have to go back to Buck, which would be a good thing. Who knows. Maybe @knifeswapper could follow @SK Blade and wangle a deal with Macerin for one of their knives of course without screws.
GEC definitely did not blow us off. We waited until late in the year and then we were realistic about the fact that it would be hard to get the knife done in time. Also, we didn’t have a champion like Charlie Campagna to lead the effort and communicate with GEC. But, GEC was not blowing us off.

I agree. We were late to the starting line, and GEC could only do so much with an already filled in production schedule. If memory serves me, they were entirely willing to do a more exclusive run of a “not yet seen” pattern, if we could wait until first quarter of 2019.

I took it that they did but no need to get into a peeing contest about it. Unless we were to get a #71 from GEC, I don't recall a knife from them that we could get sub-$100.00 in the future. Maybe last year we could have but not in the future. My .02¢

If that's the case, then now they can offer the 'not yet seen' pattern for our consideration ;) The last Forum Knife was sorted and paid for in July after weeks of exhaustive polls, delivered by Christmas. Some people started tut tutting about any 'premature' talk of a Forum Knife last year, which I found preposterous- can't win, too early/ too late:rolleyes:

I'd say that if Mike at Collector Knives could somehow be involved we could very well get a a new style of Forum Knife, or, his connexions with GEC might concentrate key minds.;) But that's entire speculation on my part:)

Let's consider CASE for a second. It's always been said that they won't respond to approaches or are not interested. Is this still true? Because the Forum Knife is a worthwhile project in numbers and kudos for any manufacturer. Their Swayback Jack is a gem and could be 'pimped' to our tastes, somebody who is American should just ask CASE outright if they could be on board:), nothing ventured nothing gained...

I think it's vital that we all give our points of view and without that a Forum just becomes a hive of agreement, insincerity even ;) Also, you state yours with cordiality and articulacy.

However, you're quite wrong :D:D

Yes you have a point about shields, in the RIGHT context but what's this about the 'average' person recognizing a knife as special or not?? Who cares about average people in this case? Most of whom don't even know how to open a slipjoint or one pattern from another:D I don't need their input:) It's all subjective as we know, and rightly. With regard to the 14 I have 3 of them, two Jacks and one single blade. The Jacks live out their lives as Tube Dwellers, the single is on my desk but it's an ornament. They're very well made but they are TINY and the single is a skimpy thin little thing offering not much grip etc, treasured toy :D Plus, they're all made of that cheap familiar rust magnet material that is ever so EZ to sharpen but ever so fast to lose it sharpness;):D The Buck is a unique Forum Knife as it is not a production run but a special order: FFG blades unlike their usual Sabre, Elk scales (check the GEC price on those...) 154 steel and all for 71 USD. Tremendous bargain:thumbsup:

The impression I gained last year was that GEC wasn't too interested in an FK and wouldn't mind a break, all they would deign to offer was to fit in an FK knife as part of a schedule of 14s nothing else. Well OK they were busy and that's how it is, they, I think have had a symbiotic relationship with the FK in that patterns used as FK knives morphed into important runs: Forum 11 Teardrop with opener (that didn't work..)as the much liked 85, 12 and 13 became runs, so too the very successful 14 (77/78), 16 became the ongoing 35 Churchill, and the 17 was from the already revered 15/TC Barlow. So we've all benefitted but it's not GEC doing us a favour, a lot of their sought after models have been due to interest on Forums, awareness from discussion etc and good thing too!

What I and many others would like is a GEC pattern not used for some years, or reworked and thus made special with our specifications etc but can they a) be persuaded to get a pattern out of mothballs? b) fit it into their now huge production schedule? Difficult to say:confused:

I also feel the 100 USD limit is rather flexible. Yes last year's was exceptional value for 71 USD but the Forum 13 knife cost 130 USD add six year's inflation to that and see what a current figure might look like....

Let us continue to consider the prospect before us:)

All is good. I don’t mind being wrong every now and then. We are all just having fun with the possibilities.

I used the term “average people” to point out that even people without any knowledge of the intracasies of our hobby can see that one knife is beautiful and the other is plain looking. I should have just said “me”. I think that last year’s knife is plain and homely. Buck’s elk has always been plain especially on small knives. I would rather have the black plastic version of that knife for $45. Why try to dress up an unattractive knife?

I just showed that particular Gunstock Jack 14 to show how beautiful the 14’s were, especially in comparison to the 2018 BF knife. Debating the size of the 14 or the merits of GEC’s 1095 vs. stainless are for other threads.

I agree that the $100 USD limit should be flexible.

Buck did good job with our 2018 knives. I wonder how many of their cutlers are holding a returned BF 2018 knife and reading the message that accompanied it are saying to themselves, "What the heck is this guy talking about" Gap????? What Gap???? What's this guy mean - loose blade????"

I think if our knife for 2019 goes over $100.00, especially if postage has to be added some guys/gals will be eliminated.

Buzzbait Buzzbait definitely needed to return his as there were some substantial gaps in his knife. Has he sent his knife back yet?

If that were true, that would be a sad statement to their manufacturing standards. Or maybe you're just pokin' the bear?
I'm not a big fan of Buck knives, but I always believed they built a quality product, and I have to believe they will want to fix some of the issues we've seen with the Forum Knives.

Feel free to ask, but bear in mind they consider 3000 pieces a "Limited Edition".

The rusty lock was difficult to open. It creaked in protest as the ancient key cajoled its corroded mechanisms apart.
The sound reminded him of the ship ...the groaning hull ,the wind whipped ropes and sails, the constant moaning of the crew and the ominous whistle of the cat as it swooped through the air onto their mutinous backs....how he missed the open ocean, the thrill of battle, the late night below decks debates about various steels, blade configurations and handle materials.
It seemed like only a few weeks ago he been on board for the six month journey..
.Executive Manager of Cargo Class Passengers..oh yes..it had all sounded wonderful ..private sleeping cabin...exclusive smorgasbord menu.
A damp heap of festering ballast and all the Bilge rats he could kill and eat in the dingy darkness..mind you some of the new recipes had been deliciously adventurous..Bilge rat casserole, Bilge rat curry,Bilge rat tajine Bilge rat sandwiches (sliced cold cut Bilge rat between two slices of packing crate timber buttered with cannon grease) Yum yum.
When the Bilge rats had run out the Ships cat Sashimi had been a wonderfully refreshing if pungent innovative nouveau cuisine.
When the ship had docked ,the raucously happy crew had swaggered ashore with the rich prizes of the voyage.
That was then.
Now as he entered the Morgue the heavy timber door with its wrought iron (or possibly carbon steel)..(maybe stainless of some sort) hinges scraped shut behind him closing out the the gradually increasing noise of the Porchenbergers.
He knew what they needed and he would get it... for despite being a rebel and a wolfshead...deep in his black heart..Migor was a true Porchenberger
He could see it now...the Admiralty would promote him to the high ranking position as Barnacle Scraper...yes they called it Hull Maintainence Operative...but who cares ...barnacles are are a culinary blank canvas and best of all they don't fight back.
There would be a tickertape parade through the village and a happy hour at the tavern with a 100 gold piece per head drinks package...
His tongue lolled at the thought. He wiped the drool from his chin with his filthy sleeve and scanned the dimly lit shelves of the refridgerated jar room. All manner of organs were kept there in jars for research purposes and for the Tavern Bistro , obviously.
A brain ,A brain ..a brain with a life in it was what he sought.....
