Come back after you have lifted a few sheep. Not the cute little lambsfoot sized ones, real heavy sheep....

I like a Heavy Sheep, but if the #86 is not much larger than a #77, it's not really going to be very heavy ;)

Bearing in mind there have been so many Sheepsfoot blades previously, it would be great to see GEC do something really special. How about a New England Whaler on a #71 frame? :)

Did someone mention Rams Horn?? One of my favorite materials!

That does look good

I’ll get my #86. No problem there. If the #86 is convenient timing, AAPK will choose it. And the standard GEC production will be plentiful.
Fixed blades are traditional. So are crosscut saws, buttonhooks, and wood kitchen stoves.
I’m outta here for a while.

The Buck at 8.5" long and around 6.5 oz is a monster of a knife! If I'm doing something that I need that size of a knife I'd probably be better off sizing up to a 10" plus knife.

Nice mock up for the GEC knifeswapper knifeswapper but I'm left with two major issues for me on the GEC. Issue #1 it is still, to my knowledge, limited to 1095 and I would much prefer 440C given those are really the only 2 steels GEC works in and 90% of the time in 1095. The 2nd issue for me is just an issue with sheepsfoot and how they ride so high when closed making the knives feel extra bulky in the pocket. I love some of what has been said about Fox which is a strong 2nd place for me as I can imagine a number of great things based on my experience with Italian made knives. I am still holding to Buck's fixed blade as my #1 while I understand peoples wish for a smaller fixed and would agree this one still falls into a size range that I can see carrying when going places I feel carrying a fixed blade is suitable.

If 1095 is a killer for you, then you for sure need to check another box. These days there are a lot of folks that like a pinchable blade, and sadly they ride a bit high.

I’m liking the barehead on the 86 rendering. That is my preference in general and, I think, different than the regular run.

I'm seeing a satin finish blade, lined bolster, ebony handled classic.
knarfeng knarfeng You could put this on the original post if you wanted better guidance there.

Okay. You convinced me. I like it. It's not what I'd call beautiful, but I'd totally use this for leather trimming, not to mention box cutting on recycling day. It screams for a wood handle. Ebony or a lighter rosewood.

A fixed blade is gonna single out a ton of members because of laws and ease of carry.

You worry too much about that Taylor. Not having a fixed blade is going to single out a ton of members because that's what they want. Ease of carry especially shouldn't be a problem and laws that affect some members shouldn't punish others that aren't affected by laws. The polls are running and should a fixed blade win, I'm sure sales will be brisk.

Thanks Jack, you reminded me of the #47 Hayin Helper. We should factor that knife into the discussion, as even though the #86 sheepsfoot would be larger, it has some similar DNA to the #47.

This ramshorn knife is a potential game changer

I do like an prefer pinchable blades but that what a small cutout in the handle is for and the riding high isn't a killing but when I have options it definitely is a consideration.

The same logic was used last year to kill a lockback, that many wanted.

Yep and that logic was used to kill a knife a few years back that had a blade longer than 3-inches because some said it was illegal to carry a knife with a blade longer than 3-inches where they lived.

I think the big selling point here is that GEC is willing to give us an extra 0.02" closed length compared to the standard #86 run! :D

#71 is the Bull Nose sodbuster. Are you thinking of the #47?

Expensive knife to ship internationally if it comes in over 8.0 oz w/ the sheath and packing material. Just sayin'... ;)
