2020 GEC #62 Easy Pocket Congress and Pocket Carver Thread

My snakewood came in today. The wood scales are beautiful but my fat fingers are having a hard time getting the blades open. Might look to trade it for something else in the future.

Just unboxed my snakewood, kudos to DLT for speedy shipping. Figured I would share a quick first impression.

Being my third GEC behind a oily creek bone 86 and a jigged bone 44, I am a bit surprised by the swirled finish of the bolsters and blades. The action is definitely grittier than expected, especially the pen blade. Both blades are pretty darn dull. I LOVE the snakewood. Lots of rain here, hope to get a photo outdoors this weekend..

Conclusion: slim package with unique covers that should see plenty of pocket time.

Were you covering up all the swirls on the bolsters? I didn't see any in the pictures... I was curious to see how they looked....

nice wood... pretty knife..

Obviously two totally different colors with two totally different shields.
One is banana and yellow, the other looks like antique bone.
I'm excited about the camel bone, and we'll see how the banana turns out, but so far I'm still quite hopeful.
It wasn't supposed to be "rotten banana", its supposed to be "ripe banana".

I'll be honest, I don't see a huge difference between the two in their unpolished state. The banana definitely has some darker spots but judging by the pre and post pictures of the Goldenrod bone on the recent 92s, those dark spots mean next to nothing.

I will definitely be curious to see what differences are between the Goldenrod and Banana this go around when we see both of them in their finished state.

Well I normally don't care for blue camel but I went for it anyways. I really like that bar shield on the goldenrod....I might try for it too.

Just opened my 62 maroon micarta from DLT. Shockingly beautiful. Very dark maroon, almost black in some light. Bolsters and blades are very sharp, polished (no “swirls”), and open with crisp 5 pulls.

*edit: This is one of the most beautiful and integrated knives I have seen from Great Eastern Cutlery. Curved shape, thin and not too long Wharncliffe, flawless transitions. Better than the ivory in my view. I will try for better photos tomorrow.

I bounced around on adding one of these to my set today, with the other two... I still very likely will. I really like the looks of them, especially in those pics of yours... the maroon actually shows up. Most pictures have them looking almost black.

My Maroon actually looks like black ebony at night but like it. I think the maroon is beautiful to though. I’ll have to take a look at mine in natural/ day light .

My snakewood just arrived. I really like the looks of the #62. I have arm one and this knife just don't work for me. I was going to buy six more #62s. I will pass and save my money for the #23 trappers. There is no since in being a hog and snagging another #62 snakewood. I want someone else to receive the GEC knife of there dreams !
Oh man so sorry to hear that my friend and I hope the #23 pattern works like a charm for you

Lots of reports of butter knife dull blades and swirl/scratches on the blade, bolsters, and shield.

Seems the quantity forced the quality to suffer on this run.
