Good morning Bladeforums - Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! It’s on, and it’s an honor to try to keep this going. I'll start by thanking this terrific forum community for keeping this event alive. Absent your participation, contribution and enthusiasm, this thread simply does not exist. And I am very pleased that we can do this in memory of a man who was a maker of great bowies, an even better friend to many, and an active member of this forum community.

The rules are no doubt well known to all by now, but a recap for anyone new to the event:

What types of knives are included?

This thread is about celebrating the quality and diversity of the genre, and the talented bladesmiths and knifemakers who have kept the bowie alive. This is NOT an attempt to conclusively define the bowie knife in either historic or contemporary terms. While I appreciate that people have strong feelings on the subject, no-one is in possession of a conclusive, exhaustive and universally-accepted definition. As with all past years, bowies, fighters, camp knives and generally any fixed blade that meets the size requirements are welcome to be included amongst the nominees. Both stock removal and forged blades are equally welcome. Daggers are excluded, as are Khukris and traditional Tantos.

Requirements are:

1) Blade length 6" and up.

2) Knife must have been made or first shown on Bladeforums in 2022.

3) Must be a custom knife.

PLEASE DO: number each knife in each post, starting with the number 1. And if you can, say a bit about WHAT you like about your nominees.

PLEASE DO NOT quote earlier posts and reproduce the images contained therein (this really messes up the voting for finalists). By all means share your thoughts, but don't replicate an image that has already been posted.

Nominate as many as you like! You needn't personally own or have made the knives you nominate.

Here are a few to get the ball rolling.
(I'm pleased to have an entry of my own this year. It seems especially appropriate since I read over an old WIP from John White, while trying to figure out how to do a frame/dog bone handle)

I have not had the time to make as many knives as I would have liked this year much less follow the creations of others. But I will be watching this thread with interest as I do every year. Good luck to the nominees!

In the past, wasn't one of the rules that the knife should have been shown in the Forum during the last year? I forget.

I tried to follow the protocol from previous years, in fact copying from those threads. Rule 2 says made or first shown on BF that year. I would read that as not necessarily someone participating here, but I'd hate to see us award it to someone from say the Art Knives Invitational who wasn't even aware of the contest and likely wouldn't care if they won.

I posted one of yours in the first post, so you are one of the nominees.

you are correct, and I should know! Lol

Since I haven't really been tracking other people's work this year, I'll just nominate a couple I managed to get done.

^^^^^^^ The camera angle makes the handle look funny. Watch the video to get a better sense of the handle.

I apologize up front for limiting our C&HK forum by not posting images here in 2023.

My personal bandwidth simply could not keep up. Those who follow my Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest social medias have seen more knives this years than ANY previous year. Including INCREDIBLE Bowies.

I automate all those postings with a paid service, yet it still takes a LOT of time.

This forum has evolved. There are more international makers and less USA makers who participate. Just the way it goes.

If posting ONLY previously shown on Bladeforums, well, that's limiting.

For this week only I allowed my KnifeGallery.com website to ALLOW right clicking and saving images. Just in case one wanted to support another by posting.

However, that option is not available, if sticking to the past rules applies.

I defer to the decisions of others. Thanks for all you are doing!

I take no stand either way. I thought it was originally kind of an office party for BF posters. But that surely does limit the possible nominees. The more the merrier. I just want to see beautiful Bowies!
