I take no stand either way. I thought it was originally kind of an office party for BF posters. But that surely does limit the possible nominees. The more the merrier. I just want to see beautiful Bowies!
Agreed, I encourage everyone to look through Coop's gallery and nominate favorites. Always time well spent anyway.

I've always thought this event was really more about showcasing the results of skill, hard work and talent, within the custom knife community, and less about celebrating individuals- even though there is always a winner by acclaim.
'Rules' is a strong and inflexible word, perhaps 'Guidelines' is a little more neutral and open

Here are a couple from Kyle Royer, MS. I believe his brothers takes his photos. I don't know Kyle, but I am very impressed with his work. I saw these two knives on Kyle's video site.

The first one is 1084/15N20 Damascus with fossilized Walrus Ivory and gold inlay.

The second one is 1084/15N20 with dyed, stabilized Maple burl.

Thanks for the additional entries, folks! We are now closed to further entries - let the selection of finalists begin!
Once again, a BIG THANK YOU for all the nominations. And a special thanks to those makers who posted up their work. . You should all be proud of your creations. Without you, we'd have nothing to talk about here.
The fun continues with what usually proves to be the hardest and most interesting part - narrowing it down to five finalists. The procedure will be the same as before:

1) Each member may submit up to 6 suggested finalists. You don't have to submit as many as 6, but don't submit any more than 6. I think we can all agree that there is more than one knife on these pages that deserved a nod? Please take your time to carefully review all the knives.

2) Please include the post number where your selected knife can be found, and the number of the knife within that post if more than one knife is presented therein - this will help clear up any uncertainty in the case where there are multiple knives by a given maker among the initial entries. For example - a say post number 30 has 4 knives. You want the third. Put "Post 30, #3". AND DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE MAKER!

3) Your order or selection doesn't matter - one vote per knife up to six, each vote counts.

4) Please try to include a few words about what appeals to you about any given selection. THIS is what makes the selection process most interesting.

5) When all votes are in, we add up the numbers (each time a knife is put forward by someone as a finalist, that effectively counts as one vote for that knife) and the top 5 will be voted on by poll in a new thread.

PS - If anything is unclear, please ask early.

OK, I'll lead off with my 6 votes for the finals.

Post 1, #2, Sellers, I like the fuller and the flow of the guard and handle.

Post 2, #1, Klutchcouski, amazing steel. Unique concept including trident.

Post 3, #4, Roberts, Well executed, nice flow, gorgeous stag.

Post 8, #1, Doyle, long clip, perfect grinds, signature handle construction.

Post 18, #1, Aldrich, beautifully executed. Theme extends onto sheath.

Post 24, #3, Kaspary, Amazing steel. Dramatic handle with inlay.

Post 1, #4 Aaron Wilburn. Those ss spacers and fornitures are great for my eyes hehe. Inlays and engraving do not "supercharge" the handle.
Post 2, #1 J. Klutchcouski. I took this one in hands. Absolutely insane. All fits with precision.
Post 8, #1 John Doyle. Beautiful hamom, gorgeous file work. I love that blade shape with false-egde straight.
Post 24, #3 A. Kaspary. Beautiful damascus. The point with bars closing are perfect.
Post 2, #2 J. Klutchcouski. This Liz flower with file work is really hard to do and deserve a hugh credit. The Turkisk damascus as well (but the flower... arghhh rsrsrs)
Post 1, #6 Richard Dawes. Look at the handle... with those frame, ferrules, pins... woooowww and the clip!!!! Is this steel wootz? Doesn't matter, take my vote.

This year we have fewer nominees than years past but the task of choosing doesn't seem to get much easier. For me, it came down to these:

Post 1, #1 - Don Hanson lll - I kinda wish the lower guard lug was a smidge longer but the lines and proportion are beautiful, not to mention the gorgeous ivory. Classic DHlll.

Post 1, #5 - Marc Aldrich - I know it's going to seem like I'm padding votes for myself. That's not it. I make what I make because that is what appeals to me. Some pieces come out better than others but I like the proportions on this one. Just very clean looking with great lines.

Post 8, #1 - John Doyle - I say it every time he posts something. John's work is so tasteful, elegant and identifiable. Superb details and proportions.

Post 18, #1 - Marc Aldrich - For me, lines and proportion have to be there. Everything else (aside from heat treat, geometry, fit and finish) is secondary. This knife is everything it was meant to be. Clean, precise, great lines, superb balance.

Post 24, #1 - A. Kaspary - Nice proportions. Beautiful steel. The long point with a subtly curved clip. Very tasteful and not over done.

Post 24, #3 - A. Kaspary - Everything I liked about #1 but more? Maybe same but different. Sensational from tip to tail.

Honorable mentions:

Post 1, #6 - Richard Dawes - That dogbone is sexy. Nice aggressive studs, beautiful details and top notch fit and finish.

Post 1, #4 - Aaron Wilburn - I love Aaron's work. This one isn't my favorite of his but it's still pretty awesome.

Please get your votes in folks. I will close this at noon EST tomorrow, Dec 31, and set up a poll for the final five.
