I've been doing it for a couple of years now. I've had to do a lot of research into what was issued in the past, since Buck doesn't report it anywhere that is accessible to someone outside the company. I have about 120 different ones now. My main research was to go through Worthpoint (several hundred pages) and try to identify unique Buck tins. I am missing 10 that I know of. However, I am probably missing another 20 or so that I don't know of. My collection is for gift tins that have multiple knives in them. Usually the 110/112 have only one knife. I have some of those but I don't consider them part of the collection. The vast majority of the combo tins have knives of Chinese origin. There are a few special ones that are USA-made.I always bought the 110 and the 112 tins. Nice to see someone collecting these now
A lot of times, you can just read the material in the back of the package. A lot of times, it shows the steel and the handle material. I agree that I like them both to be slipjoints. Those folders they throw in are not very good. I was starting to list all the slipjoints that are contained in these combo kits but I ran out of steam. I don't know how to non-destructively open the clam shells because they are heat sealed. I would have to take a razor blade and carefully cut before the heat seal - but that ruins the package. Significance of 112 to me? I collect primarily 112s.H Happy Hippo I buy the tins not for the combo kits themselves but because I collect the ChinaBuck slippies. It is sometimes hard to know what the handle materials are in the combo kits to know if it is a new and different knife or not. I like it best when both are a slippie. Have you ever figured out a way of non destructively opening the clams? That is my biggest gripe about the clam shell packaging the time come in.
addendum.... what is the significance of '112' to you?
What is the priority of your slipjoint models? I can go through my collection and list the handle varieties by model.H Happy Hippo I buy the tins not for the combo kits themselves but because I collect the ChinaBuck slippies. No priority per se. Just looking for ones I don't have but here is the catch, I have not clue what I have..What is the priority of your slipjoint models? I can go through my collection and list the handle varieties by model.
Here are the 385s I've collected (outside of the combo tins). I like collecting the Chinese slipjoints tooNo priority per se. Just looking for ones I don't have but here is the catch, I have not clue what I have..
Need to list and organize them some day. I think there have been the most variations with the 385 Toothpicks and 389 Canoes.
These 2 pictures are old and there are many more to add.

Here's what I did for 385s in Combo tins. I'll have to check if the bolsters were really n/s, my pictures are ambiguous.I have that Combo from WalMart with the 385/388 in black pakkawood.
I also thought a few years ago WalMart was selling black 385's as singles but can't find it in my notes.
