2024 GEC 93 Ramfoot

Think it took about 4 days to get from Texas to Helsinki, that's cool. But then...I get told it has cleared customs (not true) then it is being 'sorted' then registered, on the way, no movement for 4 days to make the 400kms journey here...Then told to make customs decl.-even though it had cleared- did it, not accepted, tracking No. OK, address & name OK, values OK but a new EU law demanding a code for all non EU packets but the code has gone AWOL. Posti doesn't know how to find this code- ask Customs. Customs doesn't know-ask Posti. How do I KNOW??? Now after a week of it being in the sorting office I have to wait another week and then try and do the Customs....and if no code the week after it gets returned. I don't think Kafka ever visited here...but he'd recognize this insane, wooden bureaucracy and passive aggression: A code is necessary but no one knows what it is or where to find it....But don't forget, the Digi and A-I world is always better and right.

About 10 years ago I bought a CASE/Bose Norfolk from a dealer in NY State and it was delivered to my door in under 72 hours, no digital forms or paper forms, no taxation no long delays and chat box customer service.........Dark Ages  ;)

Hi Will, if that code you need is customs HS-code I use 821193 for folding pocket knives and 821192 for fixed knives and it always works with our customs

T tomas_f Many thanks for your help. What's missing is the Transport MRN (stuck on when it arrives in the EU) It's either been lost or is the incorrect No. has been used. It's Posti's error but in this country no institution ever wants to lose face by admitting it's in the wrong & rectifying it....;) I have to wait and hope they issue a new one before they send it back :poop: Getting stuff out of here is OK it's when it gets here that the trouble can begin.

Apologies for the deviation in thread , although it IS about the 93 Ramfoot :)

Still looking forward to this one as I'm very taken with Micarta and the Orléans shield 😍 just got enraged by the incompetence, usually if I complain in public about an issue the Knifegods intervene and all is well!

Oh I see, a different number than I thought. I wish you luck with your 93, it is a nice pattern. My last package from the US took three attempts (US customs returned it twice for ridiculous reasons like "contains undeclared liquid", even though there were only knives) and four months to deliver  In addition to additional money, it cost me a huge amount of patience.

Coco is the reception committee for the Micarta, when it gets here.......

Man, I feel ya! Been there, when incompetent postal workers sent mine parcel back all the way to US. Not once. Sincerely wish it sorts out for you ASAP!

I'm having a heck of a time choosing between the wintergreen jigged and the antique natural. Which does everything think will wear better? I may end up using one and vaulting the other. These are such beautiful pieces with great fit & finish!

I have been wearing out my Natural because I love the way it looks worn. I pocket carry it it naked with my keys because it takes the character so well🥸. Ended up being my favorite pickup of the year, even though I also have a snakewood and appaloosa.

Really good to know! The natural's what I'm leaning towards. May make the wintergreen a vault piece in case something were to happen to the natural. TBD. Appreciate the use feedback!

After 100 Days of internment..... my GEC 93 was finally released not by Customs, they were fine with it, but POSTI the Finnish P.O. was claiming they needed safety documentation for the EU before delivering it...:poop: Arrived 24 Feb Helsinki delivered to me 420kms away 3 June

Collected this afternoon and really delighted with the knife just regret the vexation and worry plus the same for a Forum friend who sent it to me.

Better pictures later but for now, relief :D

Will that’s incredible! I don’t remember you having that much trouble when I sent you one a while ago. Has this become the new normal? 🤬

Why are they worried about safety?! GEC’s are sharpened like butter knives.

It's insane Dan! Yet I've had 5 other packets since Feb from non EU countries and all has gone OK like it was with you.

I think it's some hierarchy crap in the P.O management which was privatised some years ago and is nowhere near as efficient or reliable as before. The excuse is an EU edict demanding security codes, but that started in 2021 and the problem has only existed this year, there are 3000 packets undelivered and building up. My parcel was 100% correctly addressed, tracked, customs declaration, contents, sender, country code. Somebody didn't know how to make a decision I suspect and thus it all got paralysed, "not my job, no comment, not my responsibility, am I high up enough to do this? " It's impossible to contact anybody in authority in the P.O. and nobody knows who they are....

I hope this is not the shape of things to come....

The 93 is a brilliant frame in my view and houses the Lamb Foot and Sheepfoot really well, nicely balanced and with correct proportions . Finish on this one is very good with the Micarta being richly polished to great effect. Great W&T out of the tube before oiling, no play no gaps. However, there is some gapping around the shield, but I hear GEC has a new inletting cutter so maybe they haven't quite mastered it yet? Not a big annoyance though and the Orléans shield is quite demanding due to its shape. Will be using this one for sure.

That’s great Will, I’m happy you finally gained possession of it. Beautiful example!

Man, I am sooo happy for you! Was afraid they'll send it back whenever it came from for your further frustration. Really glad all ended up well. Don't let the sour aftertaste last long!

They have improved greatly, from my experience. All recent ones I got are perfectly sharp.
