2024- Your greatest acquisition and most disappointing release.

What are the bottom two?
Look at my clock, watch it tick.... You're starting to feel sleepy... Very sleepy...

There, now you can forget that you asked that question. I don't think you want to go down that path. Especially not the Michael Walker, Terzuola, Scott Cook, Tom Mayo type of path... If you think these knives we're buying are expensive now...

The prize this year was a Brian Nadeau Arch Nemesis

The regret was letting his Void XL go in a really neat spec.....contacted person who bought it to potentially buy it back, they sold it and regretted it....they contacted the person they sold it to sold it to and it got sold again(?)....trail lost....and it is now gone into the abyss. :(

. . . it's another world . . . ? 😞😶?

My significant other occasionally says : Why don't you get rid of some of the stuff you no longer use ?
I say to her : If I didn't want the damb thing I never would have bought it.

I bought a lot of knives in 2024 & there's isn't just one knife that I can call my "greatest" acquisition because I acquired several arguably "grail" level knives that have been at the top of my "want list" for a LONG time, including (but not limited to) a:

1) Microtech Iconic Auto (168-10)

2) Smock SK23

3) Spyderco Police Gen 1 "PIG" (Pride, Integrity & Guts)

4) Spyderco Gen 1 Slysz Bowie CTS-XHP (C186TIP)

5) Spyderco Szabofly (B03P)

6) ZT 0777 M390

The only knife that I was "disappointed" with was a ZT 0556 Auto. Not because it wasn't a well made knife. Only because I wished it was bigger. 🤷‍♂️

I've slowed down a lot on knife transactions as I get deeper into retirement. I only bought four this year IIRC and I'm really pleased with all of them, starting in January with an SHF bought on the Exchange from my friend abbazaba abbazaba who had it custom made to his spec by Spartan to match his SHF small.

That was followed in May by a CruCarta Military 2 which had been on pre-order at Knifecenter since sometime in 2023 and turned out to be the perfect match for my CCPM2 that I'd hoped it would be.

Later, in October, another pre-order arrived from KnifeArt which I'd almost completely forgotten about, but was one I had very much wanted and been kinda unobtaimium as the CRK/KA exclusives seemed to have been on hold for some time. I'd had and loved my CF-sided large 21 for many years and was glad to get this CF-sided Inkosingo in addition to it, filling 3 Chris Reeve likes in one.

Rounding out the year and coming in December was another SHF, acquired from the same friend who DM'd me to offer this beautiful large Flourishes version which I found myself totally unable to resist.

So, no, this isn't just one great acquisition, it's four, but I think they're all great, at least in part because I've gotten more selective than in previous years when I was working with more disposable income, buying maybe twenty and selling ten or more knives a year.

For disappointments in selling, well, there's only one. I only sold one--my Shirogorov Quantum Ursus NL--and am only disappointed that I wasn't able to sell it for more as it sat on the Exchange for too long and was re-listed and price-dropped four times.
