Looking for a place to purchase 203E steel, anyone know of a source? I'm wanting to make a low carbon damascus mix for fittings.

You're probably looking for something that'll make a bright layer in damascus- if not, if you're just looking for a clean low carbon steel, call Aldo- he sent me a few chunks of very low carbon steel, like a 1006 a while back, he may have more. I kinda hate using "mild" (A36) because there's no telling what's in it.
Sorry, no clue where to get 203...hoping someone knows a source.

Yeah, hoping for a bright layer without having to resort to using pure nickel. Found some at Admiral I'm going to try out.

Last I got was from Admiral, IIRC. Also, IIRC it only comes in 1/4"X2" or sheet.

It is a pressure vessel steel, and can be ordered from several industrial suppliers to that industry. A google search will find them - "203E pressure vessel".

An alternative for making knife hardware damascus is stacking 1/8" 1018 welding steel with 201 nickel between the layers. Any thickness between .010" and .060" will work for the nickel, depending on how wide a stripe you want. I think most use .010". This makes a nice bright stripped damascus. It can be twisted pretty easily. Actually, any simple carbon steel from 1006 to 1084 will work.
