These are blocks of Ancient Bog Oak that were from a log carbon dated to be 2090 years old +/- 50 years. More than 2000 years ago the tree died and fell into a river in the Ukraine. While the tree was buried in the sediment the wood was absorbing minerals from the sediment. That is what gives this wood the dark coloring and metallic luster. The coloring in this block can show a slight change from light to dark when the light hits from different angles.
This wood is also called Morta by tobacco pipe makers. Untreated pieces are desirable for making tobacco pipes and projects such as handles that would involve carving or texturing. If you prefer stabilized Bog Oak there will be a batch available in about a month.
