I am completing an 20cv gyuto and I am a little worried about the heat treat.

Before I send to Peters I would like to finish to final thickness. Being an air hardening steel it "should" be ok to finish to a .010 edge before the heat treat. The spine is .100 thick though and this is a full flat grind on a 2" wide blade with an almost full distal taper.
Anyone have any experience sending stuff this wide and thin to Peters?

Timos, I just got through doing a run to Peters. One knife was a santoku style CPM-M4, spine was .135", 2" tall blade, I brought the edge down to what I believe was just underneath .010" and sent it to them. I included a letter to Brad saying that if the edge was too thin, I wouldn't have a problem of him refusing to do it. As a matter of fact, 6 AEBL blades and 4 CPMM4 blades ALL had edges that were .010" or slightly under. Everything came back perfect. I hope this helps.

Two petty knives out of AEB-L I KNOW were under .010"....micrometer measured about .007"-.008". The spines were only about .07". Dead straight...no issues at all.

Thank you for sharing that, im feelin pretty confident about it then :)

Brad has never done me wrong. I have ground blades to near final thickness...chisel grinds to boot, and not one had come back warped.

Knock on wood...
