20cv vs 154cm? Griptilian

So in most opinions 154 will perform just fine with very unnoticeable difference?
I don't care for the CM154 in my Grippie. It does not hold an edge very well IMHO (same for my sole Emerson). I have a Spyderco Mule in 20CV, and find that much easier to sharpen and the edge holding way better.

I'm new to the site but being I have both I'd figure i'll chime in. Neither of mine see hard use be any means (boxes/packages etc). I prefer the g10 for the feel. I don't notice any practical difference in the blade performance.

Have to agree on the difference between 20CV and 154 CM. I've come to appreciate that 154 CM is easy to keep sharp and cuts well when it's sharpened. 20CV/M390/204P is a favorite steel for a reason.

If you have the same blade geometry with both steels you would not notice a difference cutting up boxes when they're both sharp and have a similar edge. You likely would notice a difference in how quickly they got dull.

Considering theoritical performance, 20cv will largely outperform the 154cm.
Considering light EDC use, both are great steel and you will probably not see any dramatic difference.

I like M390/204p/20cv at lot because I have seen some holding an edge for a very long time and being still not too difficult to sharpen.
What is nice with 154cm is that even if edge holding and wear resistance may not be on the same level, it usualy offers other mechanical characteristics that make it more interesting in some situation, and it is usually easier to sharpen.

IMO both are good choice the EDC, but for different reasons.

speaking of the griptilian, I would have liked to see a 154cm + G10 version.
But nowaday a 154cm with custom after market G10 scale can cost more that the standard 20cv + G10.

So if you want some G10, go for the 20cv version and don't look behind.
But if you want a "disposable" cheaper EDC take the grivory +154cm without any hesitations.

I purchased a 555-1 in 20cv after owning on in 154 cm, the difference is startling. I think the G10 color combo is ugly, I hate the cowboys. I have some AWT scales and the knife is one of my most used and carried knives. For my usage I have had no problem and prefer the edge holding of 20cv over 154.
