Thanks for the help guys. I have a slight preference for wood over horn, but I think that this is one area in which horn holds an advantage. I've never had a with the red stuff on horn handles, while I'm still struggling with it on my Kumar Karda.

The main thing about sharpening is to Always get a burr along one complete edge before you start on the other side and you will get your knife sharp.
If you never read about how to sharpen a knife then it's second nature to do convexed edges as flat edges are a learned process.
And the deal with a single edge bevel is lots of patience and keeping your knife blade angle flat against the hone, strop both sides when a burr raises all along both sides one after the other. Simple, but many don't have the patience.:)
