OK I was wondering what kind of container is best for .22 rounds to keep them dry while camping, trapping etc. Looking for a container that will hold about 50 to 100 rounds.
I honestly have taken the .22 for granted. I usually carry them in the box in a pocket. I imagine if you were very concerned, you could use a couple of 35mm film containers. CCI sells them in a reusable plastic box that should be fine.
I use a small pill bottle, like an Advil or Tylenol bottle. Probably not totally waterproof under all conditions, but unless you submerge it, it ought to do the trick. If you get caught in a rainstorm with a bottle in your pocket, you should be all right. It has always worked for me.
Good question. Since .22 ammo is THE most moisture sensitive ammo of all for some reason, it's good to keep it VERY dry. I use 35 mm film cannisters which are free from the one hour photo shop. I like the clear ones best.
I also use heavy zip lock bags and other plastic containers from www.rei.com
I would use Ziplock bags. The bullets won't rattle and the whole thing will conform to your pockets easier. If you use pill bottles/etc might try putting in a few squares of toilet tissue to dampen the noise they make, especially as you begin to empty the container.
The thick, like 5 mil, bags are already quieter than the thin ones but if quiet is important, and they are in your pocket they will be silent. In your pack, just roll the bag and put a rubber band around it.
