What way do you carry your .22 ammo when hiking? I need a good way to store .22s in my BOB and in my pack. Open to any suggestions!

You can get 40 rounds in a 35 mm case if stacked right
Bike tube rager band to keep the lid on
I carry 2 this way

Beatle

The plastic case that CCI's come with seems good enough for me. Its pretty tough and holds 50 rounds, more than enough for most situations.

I usually leave them in the box but I might try the film canister idea next time.

I carry 2 extra magazines for my ruger in an Uncle Mikes speed loader case. The case would neatly hold two "film cans" with ammo (100 rounds more). Great idea!!!!

I usually use the Federal 810's or CCI MiniMag 100 round boxes. Again more than enough.

Daisy or Crossman makes a little plastic "belt clip" box for their .177 caliber pellets.

Stacked properly, IIRC you can get ~60 rounds of .22LR in there

I just leave them in the plastic case (CCI Brand). I think the .22caliber is my favorite caliber.....So versatile....

SMKW has these. Anyone tried them out?

For my tube loaders, I use a nifty cylindrical plastic speed loader. I think I got it from a Cabelas store, I don't really remember. But it is a bit on the large side.

uncle mikes makes a .22 ammo belt pouch with a velcro enclosure hods something like 100 rds vshrake mentions it in his article on the m scout

ya, there are various belts and vests but i like to carry and extra clip or 2 when hunting with my Rem. viper. It is a lot speedier than shuffling the shells, but not as efficent on long hikes. Nylon stock ammo pouches/carriers are available too.

FYI- you probably don't carry 22 Longs. Modern 22 ammo rimfire ammo comes in three flavors, 22 Shorts, 22 Longs or 22 Long Rifle. Each varies in length. 22 LRs are the most common these days. 22 Shorts are available. Not many 22 Longs on the market anymore. Most rifles and pistols are chambered for LR. Some can fire S, L, or LR. Not trying to be a pain in the arse, but it may be important for you to know the differences some day.

nemo, great info, i try to explain this to most people and they think im retarded, cant grasp the idea of the long as opposed to the long rifle. I prefer for hunting with a pump rifle a .22 long, standard velocity, very quiet when fired

Zip Lock snack sized bags work for me. I save the 50 round plastic boxes such as Velociters come in and use them too. I'm not real fond of rattling ammo though.

You can't get a cotton ball in there because you won't be able to close it. You can, however, shred a cotton ball and put enough in there to where you can close it and silence the rattle to a large degree. You also have yet another place to store emergency tinder, the shredded cotton ball, for use in emergencies and it will stay dry unless you are totally drenched in a storm or totally immersed by a fall in a body of water, etc.
