I have a remington nylon 66 (love it)

I really dig it just think the tube mag is kinda scary...especially for survival..

But..really love it...who else loves them gems from the past?

Not my pic but i have that one and a blued w/ brown stock one... like i said...love em

I love them...I prefer the "77" model with the detachable magazine, and REALLY wish I had not sold my last one years ago.

Why no love for the tube mag? I'd rather have it over a magazine if it was my only gun for survival, heck the .22 I've got coming in is tube fed. Nothing to lose or get gunked up. Sure it could get dented/damaged, but you could still rock it single shot, which would be tougher to do with a box mag gun.

Interesting to see a thread about the Nylon 66, I just bought(and finished reading) Into The Wild last night.

that was my squirrel rifle growing up - man, i wish i'd never sold it!! :(

light, pointable, accurate, tough - the perfect .22 in my completely biased opinion. Now they sell at crazy high prices!

if only Remington would bring them back - I can always dream... :D

Marlin 60, Tube fed is great I have seen them get droped on and not a dent, yes they can but they will only dent when in a survival situation..its a rule I think haha

I have one. Like new. Still has the sticker on it. Ive only shot it twice. The trigger pull is much better than my Marlin. Its a sweet gun. Everytime their is a "What gun for survival thread?" I answer nylon 66.

I love those Remington Nylons......had a collection of them some time back.
Sorry I sold them all. Prefer them to the Marlin and the Ruger I now have.
Would like to get one again...anyone wish to sell one?

Actually it was pretty accurate.

Mohawk 10C

Clip fed beastie!

I would prefer the tube fed for survival.

GREAT gun!

That brings back memories! I had a Black Diamond like the one in the pic, and a Mohawk Brown. Most reliable .22`s ever made.

My friend's dad had one which he abused and never cleaned ever. He terribly neglected all of his guns, in fact. His nylon 66 was the only one that would actually work properly in spite of the neglect.

The very first rifle my dad ever got me when I was 11 years old was a bolt action Nylon 10 single shot. That was a LONG time ago. I have never seen another one besides mine.

Tube feeds are nice. I have a tube fed savage 87S that's a bit heavy to be a light packing rifle but would excel as a survival longarm. Nothing at all wrong with a 15 round tube mag. If I need to get another 10 round mag into the weapon in a second and a half, I've got the wrong gun for a failed situation.

Mine also has a locking bolt and will fire short, long, or long rifle as a bolt action (theoretically repeating with the tube mag still, but shorts don't always feed perfectly)

Only thing I need to do is figure out a tube retainer that's a bit more resilient than the sliding lock pin it has.

Mine was a Remington Speedmaster....never had the Nylon, but same concept. I carried that thing a million miles and those were youth miles. I have no fear of the tube mags. Sure, you MIGHT run over it with your truck, but I don't really see it being an issue. Heck, you could probably carve a point on a dowel rod, tap it through the tube, pop it back in and keep shootin'. Yes, I have gone to the 10/22 as my goto gun, but you have me wanting to get the old girl back out. Never let me down yet!!

i have a nylon 66 and really like it but i have to admit i like a wood stock.

in regards to the tube magazine. i had a winchester semi with a tube magazine and was out hunting. i was tramping through some rough swamp and treed a coon. that coon was so surprised to see somebody back in there. any ways i shot it and carried it out. when i got back to the house i went to put my rifle away and found that the inner tube had fallen out. i never did find it. but after that i figured a rifle with a box magazine was a better choice. i could carry a few extra magazines without taking up to much room but to carry a extra tube magazine would probably be a PIA. just my thoughts.

The very first rifle my dad ever got me when I was 11 years old was a bolt action Nylon 10 single shot. That was a LONG time ago. I have never seen another one besides mine.

Didnt know they made such a thing.

My Dad got a Nylon 66 when they first came out, around 1959 or so. I grew up with that rifle. It still shoots fine. My brother has it now. Yes, it's a fine survival rifle, as is just about any reliable, acccurate .22. I like the Henry lever action. Smooth action and can shoot shorts, longs, or long rifles.

I have a Mohawk and love the old Remingtons. Now I have a great survival .22 in the conversion unit for my Bushmaster AR. I purchased a SS CMMG unit and simply love it. Not only works great but allows me to enjoy shooting my AR without the expense. The unit simply replaces the bolt and magazine. For survival purposes it would serve well having the AR in .223 for bigger game and SD needs and the .22 for small game. The .22 high velocity could also be brought into SD needs should you get low on .223 ammo.
