22 LR kit guns?

Sweet from USN posted this beauty (M6 Scout).

Those M6 scouts are awesome, I wish they still made em, someone definitely needs to bring them back.

I have been looking for a used one for years, or a new one that was a reasonable price. Since they stopped making them, the prices have jumped by a lot out here. They make a great truck gun/survival rifle.

I was thinking handguns but those are great!

A rifle I found not long ago that I really like is the Browning 22 semi-auto take-down rifle. I'm looking for a 22 cal handgun to go with it.

Thanks,

collector,
I carry a Ruger single six 22/ 22 mag in my pack at all times. The extra cylindar weighs next to nothing and I carry 50 rounds for both 22lr and 22 mag. I like the option of having the mag for bigger game in a survival situation. I know about everything has been killed with a 22lr i just like having 2 calibers in one gun. Just my 00.2 cents

I'll have to see if I can dig up some pictures after work tonight, but I think the Single Six is the best bang-for-your buck as far as "kit" guns go. I really like the option of 22 mag; I don't have one, but it's on the short list.

For real light weight/compact packages, I have a Beretta 21A in 22LR and a Taurus model 94 with the 2" barrel and adjustable sights...seems kind of funny to have adjustable sights on a 2" barrel, but with SA, I can get decent groups at 15 yards...more than enough for a rabbit or squirrel...but not much beyond that.

My grandfather's J.C. Higgin's .22LR Ranger with 5.5" barrel and 9-shot cylinder is about perfect...very accurate, light and well balanced.

On the large side, I have a Browning Buckmark with Aimpoint...deadly accurate out to 50 yards.

Another option is a conversion kit...I've had great luck with Sig (P220), CZ Kadet and my Kimber .22LR conversion kit. I need to pick up an Advantage Arms for my Glocks.

I think S&W makes the premier 317 Kit Gun, but the price is usually too high to justify. I could get two Ruger Single Six's and a several thousands of rounds for the price of the S&W alone!

My S&W 317-1 weighs little and carries in a hiking vest well. I keep it loaded with snake shot.

That is the gun I'm thinking of getting. It's more expensive than I want to pay but if it's good and won't leave wanting something "better" then I'm ok with the price. How do you like it and how's the accuracy?

I already have a MK3 that's real accurate but I find it too heavy for a kit gun.

Thanks,

My interests outdoors are more in defending against the Manson family and critters, than taking game. So in black bear country, I carry the S&W 360SC "Kit Gun". It is virtually identical to the model 317 pictured (3" barrel) and of similar weight, but chambered for .357 mag.

It is ultralight, fits nicely in a fanny pack, and you don't even notice you are carrying it. Sure it kicks like a mule, but when you are saving your life....who cares?

I've got a S&W 317. It is so light it doesn't feel real. Here is my treestand/hunting kit. The .22 is for popping bunnies or squirrels when I have my deer rifle, or I am squirrel hunting with a shotgun and I get a close, still shot at one. The shotgun messes them up at too close of range. I traded a dealer out of this one. They are expensive, but I got a good deal. Taurus makes a lightweight .22 revolver too, and way cheaper. This thing is accurate, and I like the fiber optic sight for this type of role.

Thanks,

Accuracy is pretty much like most S&W revolvers, which is good. It's not a target pistol, but accurate enough in skilled hands to take out snakes or squirrels if they are close. I'd say it compares well with my old Ruger Single Six.

I have the M6 and frankly find it a bit heavy for my uses. I tried carrying it in a pack for a few trips but it adds A LOT of weight. And I know that is to be expected from it's construction. At the most I would keep it in the car, but for me that is taken care of by either a Kel-Tec SU 16CA or a Mossberg that I sent to Vang to get worked over.

On a different note I have a little H&R 22 that I love, and am looking for a holster for it. Any of you with the S&W 317's recommend anything?

I have a Smith Model 34, and a Model 63. Both are 4 inch barrel, with adjustable sights. This is the one that stays in my BOB, and goes to the woods when I hike.

I'm considering the Bearcat or the 317 Hi-Viz. I wish Ruger's new LCR came in 22 lr configured like the 317 Hi-Viz. I emailed the chief at Ruger asking if they would make one....not here yet but one can dream!

So far the 317 Hi-Viz is at the top of my list but I have to get over the sticker shock!

An option to the Bearcat or Single Six is the Rough Rider but I'm not sure I'd be happy with the quality. I read that guys like them but I handled one last week and it didn't feel as nice as I know I want.
