25 days in the snow sebenza test

Hey Dave CRK will take care of your Sebbie. I really messed up the blade on one of my Mayo mods and they replaced if for me. It cost me of course and they put on their regular thumbstuds but hey I got my Mayo back with the super smooth action. Those Sebbies are one tough knife.

Good to see you got your knife back Dave, it could have been much worse. Please post pics when she's all cleaned up.

As you can see it cleaned up almost completely. I absolutely suck at sharpening, so I will probably have to send it to someone.

I do have a sharpmaker but I think the edge is convex, I may take this opportunity to send it to Tom Krein and see if he can out a straight 30 or 15 per side on it.

I currently have an s30v blade in a cup of water. Im gonna leave it there for 5 days in a 70 degree enviornment. I dont think anythings gonna happen. But i will post what does in five days.

trimcut123: if you really want to replicate the test put some salt water in a spray bottle and spray the blade a couple times a day. Being in the drive way it was likely subjected to road salt as well as being exposed to some quantity of air.

Let me know if I can help you out!

You really did a GREAT job cleaning it up!

WOW! What a testament to CRK's!

By no means I would want to discourage you from sending it to Tom Krein, but if you want to keep a convex edge, I wouldn't surprised if BRKT were willing to sharpen it for you.

Now that is a knife with character. :) Also a testament to the design and materials' durability. Are those custom thumbstuds? Look like a bit different. I wonder if CRK could resurface the gouges a bit.

Thanks Tom, I'll be calling you.

Thumbstuds where replaced by Tom Mayo when he drilled the holes and did his magic on the action. Which for those wondering he no longer does custom sebenza work.

I think it's just perfect now. Broken in. Your next scratch won't even be noticed, so it is a great user. Kind of like when you buy a new car, after it gets a few scuffs, you finally stop parking in the far corner of the lot.

That's KNIFE ABUSE.
I would never leave my knife in the snow for 25 days.
Use the right tool for the right job, for the task of being left in the driveway for 25 days you should have chosen a knife made from H1.
This isn't scientific, where's the control group.:D

Seriously though, after you're cleaning and considering what it went through, it looks great.

I'm glad this was brought back from the dead. Most folders would be hard pressed to perform that well!

Impressive test, just think of the combinations:snow, water, salt and worst of all, dirt&grit getting into the mechanism.Plus being run over:eek:

I have to ask HOW did you lose it?? Clip failure?

When spring comes, all sorts of beauty comes to the surface! Nice to have a knife with some battle or duelling scars too:D
