25" Gelbu special: Bent on the first chop!

well, i have to say i am utterly impressed with that bit of cutting technique!

i think it makes a whole lotta sense that a longer blade like that could bend with such selective heat treating with a missed cut. The softer spine and such.

i would test the edge, if that is soft as well, then that could point to a bad heat treat.

regardless Danny, that was some force you put there! wow!

i'd like to see you do that to a chiruwa AK.

Ok, Yangdu is sending me a new one. How can I use this one to benefit the Kamis?

Straighten it, sell it locally to someone wanting a decoration and donate the money thru the website?

Perfect! Great idea Nasty! I'm not saying anything against the decision to replace it, but were it me I would just straighten it out. I don't see how it could not have bent given the circumstances, but then I haven't seen or held the blade and only have my own 25"ers to compare to. I suspect it would happen with the new one as well if struck similarly.

In any case, since HI is replacing it, I would sell it for as much as I could after straightening it (ethically pointing out to the buyer its condition) and send the $ to Yangdu to at least offset her replacement costs for a new custom blade.

Regards,

Norm

Well, its not like Im going to stop buying HI khukuris anytime soon.
I bought this one as a weapon and I think I'll just lay off the bamboo with #2.
Would someone here like to buy the "blessed gelbu"?
If you just pay me shipping and then send Yangdu a donation for the kamis or for Rams' college fund, thats good enough for me.
