Hi Folks,
It's time to sell some knives again. I've got 25 damn fine pieces of cutlery here that need new homes.
These are carved out of 5160 spring steel. 5160 is nice tough stuff. It's not the hardest knife material out there, but it is one of the tougher. I have a variety available today, in both .26” (just a touch over 1/4”
and .32” (a bit over 5/16”
stock, including bigger knives than I've released previously, and tantos and wharncliffs in the thicker material for the first time. The .32” material is pretty damn thick! These are heat treated in my shop, and left with a rough forged finish. The finish is somewhat durable, but can chip with use. These should run about HRC 57-59, but that's a guess based on my experience and the process, as I do not have access to a hardness tester.
On the down side, 5160 will rust if not kept oiled, but part of the beauty of these knives is that they are meant to be used. If you get a spot of rust on it, hit it with some scotchbrite and oil, and get back to work!
The wrap on these is in paracord, with the internal strands removed to make in lay flat and tie well. It's a very tight wrap. It is not held in place by an adhesive, rather by the strength of the wrap itself. The wrap was reverse engineered from an old Chinese sword by a gentleman named Peter Deker, and is a really cool knot, in addition to being very functional. The knives with scales are attached with a threaded brass insert, and are removable. I really like the way the cord over scale works out, it adds a nice grippy panel and palm swell that looks cool and is highly functional.
Sheaths are simple kydex. I've put pocket/boot/belt clips on most of the smaller ones, and the larger ones are setup for a large tek lok. I don't have enough tek loks to fill all of the orders, but I'd be happy to order them and install them if you would like. If you order one and mount it on your own, you will need to modify the posts on the screw/nut assembly slightly to get it to fit tight. The tek loks are $12.25 from my supplier. Note that kydex sheaths + oiled knives are prone to attracting grit, and as such can leave some marks/scratches on the finish. These are user knives, so I don't worry to much about it, but if it's going to drive you crazy, these probably aren't for you.
In order to purchase one of these knives, please shoot me an email Powell.josh@gmail.com There has been more interest in these than there are knives, so I will take orders in chronological order per the emails. Payment will be via paypal (at the same email address), but don't send money until the order is confirmed. The prices are delineated in the album.
Shipping is via USPS flat rate box with insurance will run right about $8.50 for the smaller knives. All of the larger knives will ship for $15 in a medium flatrate box, all insured. I'm happy to ship internationally, but shipping will be more. Tell me what you need, and we can get it figured out.
If you buy 2 knives or more, each one after the first will be $5 off! I know it's not much of a sale, but my margin on these is pretty low. If you have any questions or comments, I'll be keep close track of this thread!
