25th anniversary knives...updates?

Perhaps if BBCI changed the rules to each member getting only one of each knife (BCCI member Knife and regular knife) then there wouldn't be many listed for sale. When someone with lots of bucks abuses the program by buying multiple sets with the intent to sell and make a profit it defeats the original purpose of collecting the BCCI knives. Just my opinion but I don't care for the idea buying a dozen sets only to make a dollar. :mad:

Thank you, Rig, Oregon, Stumps, Skelator and Badhammer for your kind comments. It is a handsome model. Thanks club officers and Buck. DM

Well, mine showed up today and I have to say I'm very disappointed.

Here is my complete set of four...they are beautiful knives, but there are a few problems;

The standard 124 has what I would call an obvious flaw in the Lucite handle. It even feels rough;

The mirror finish 110's blade is way off center and right up against the frame;

I'm a collector and boxes are important too. The two 124 boxes arrived beat up;

The mirror blade 124 looks perfect as does the 110 D2.

That sucks Stumps. When I pulled mine out of the USPS box I remember thinking, "Geez, these could have been crushed pretty easily". Fortunately mine turned out fine. Maybe it's the angle of the photos but you satin 124 looks smaller/thinner at least through the grip than the mirror 124. The guard also looks thinner and the pommel more square and smaller.

Badhammer....you have an excellent eye. I didn't even notice that part.

I just got the two 124's out and measured them. The satin finish blade one is a full 1/8th inch shorter in length, the handle is a full 1/8 inch narrower in diameter and the guard is close to 1/16th inch less thick.

Measurements are as follows;
Satin 124...11 3/4" long, handle diameter...1 1/4", guard thickness...3/16"
Mirror 124..11 7/8" long, handle diameter...1 3/8", guard thickness...1/4"

I don't have a clue as to why they are different sizes, but the mirror 124 has the feel of a hefty knife. The handle diameter difference can really be felt!!

What a shame that does spoil the lucite

I hope mine have no flaws as its a long way back !

Except the flaws they look a stunning set congratz

I hope to receive the satin 25th Ann. 124 soon and I'll post a photo when it arrives.

My satin 124 has the same handle and guard as yours. I compared it to a burgundy micarta 124 I had handy and the blade seems a bit thinner too but I haven't dug out the calipers yet to check how much. I do kind of like the handle this way though. With the standard 124 I feel like I'm holding ONTO the knife rather than holding it. Felt the same way the first time I fired a SIG 226 after using a CZ-75b for years.

I can understand flaws in natural materials, but these seem to me as they should have been rejected as blems. I certainly don't want the two I've shown in the photos above in post #23. I would be embarrassed to display them.

I have two perfect knives and two with flaws. I have two perfect boxes and two damaged boxes. I don't remember exactly how much this set of 25th Anniversary BCCI knives cost me, but I do remember it was over $700.00. That's way too much to spend not to have a perfect set of knives.

Maybe someone from Buck will chime in.

Mr Stumps,

Could you post pics of the sheaths for these knives and your thoughts on those as well please?

Cost: March 2013 BCCI Club News, page 12-13: $720 for one of each knife and $25 maximum shipping 1-4 knives. Each knife: 110 mirror polish & gold etch $180, 110 Satin D-2 $175, 124 satin $165 and 124 mirror polish & gold etch $200.

The sheaths are top notch!! I really like the stamped logo. The boxes are also very special in my opinion.

EDIT; Sorry about photos being sideways. I corrected them in Photobucket, but they still came out wrong.

Well, I wish that didn't happen. My 110 blade came well centered and no concerns on the fit & finish. Plus, no damage to the box as that was important to me as well. For a folder or sheath knife with D2 steel these are a very good value. I had been looking at Bob Dozier models, who is a legend in custom knives with D2 steel and held back ordering one as they run about double what I paid for this one. So, my patience was rewarded. I wouldn't buy that one either. It looks horrible!!

I sent an email to Joe and one to Larry. I asked them to take a look at my pictures in post #23 above and give me their thoughts. We'll see.........
