Had a couple other interesting questions come up:

Hi Stephan,

Saw you're selling one of your honyaki knives. I have couple of questions. First, what are teh qualities of W2 steel as compared to others. Second on this particular knife, what is hardness of the steel? finally, do you have any choil shots?

Thanks in advance.

W2 is a fine grained high carbon tool steel. it is very similar to White #2 in chemical composition. hardens very well and is about the best I've ever used for edge retention.

It's a little chippy'er than 52100 but takes a bit of a finer edge.

imho beats O1 easily
very similar to 1095, takes a better edge and is more resilient due to the vanadium content.

I've not used any high grade stainless so I couldn't really compare there.

this blade is hardened at 59-60 HRC

Thanks, please let me know if I can help with anything else
